OUR REGISTRY

14867535748_6c267d42a6_o

Selecting home goods has definitely been one of my favorite parts of wedding planning! I’ve only browsed online but Dustin and I plan to visit the actual stores we are registered at to see the items in person.  So far to the two stores we like and feel are well-rounded are Macy’s and Crate and Barrel.  We agree that the registry needs to be refined and tailored to a criteria of need versus want.  I’ve read some good advice in regards to not getting too “appliances happy” and to really think about what you’ll use. Here are the reasons why we’ve added the above to our registry right off the bat-

“China” set: We both want our dishes to be clean and simple and want to go with a bone white. Not sure the above is the exact set but something very similar is what we’re leaning towards.

Cutting board: I have only plastic ones at the moment and would like to upgrade to a wooden board that could double as a cheese platter- the above would is perfect!

Knife set: Back in college I was given a set and since added mismatched pieces but all of them could be tossed due to not properly taking care of them or rust along the handles.

Crock pot: We’re both big fans of soup and stew but haven’t had the room to store a crock pot in our tiny kitchens. This will definitely come in handy!

Toaster: True story, I still own and use a Hello Kitty toaster I bought in 2004 from Target. Yep- I need an upgrade!

Copper mug: Been eye-balling the Moscow Mule mugs for a while, they are one of the “want” items more than the “need” items but will surely get used.

Mixer: This was a no brainer to add because I’ve wanted one for a least a decade but finally feel like it’s the right time to own.

Towels: Both of our towel sets need to be tossed. I like the idea of white towels but with makeup and hand drying I just feel like they’d get too dirty, so grey is a neutral compromise that I don’t think will soil as fast.

Drip coffee maker: Dustin is a huge coffee drinker and while we have a newish coffee pot I think I’d like the smoothness that this style maker yields. Plus you can make iced coffee-my favorite!

These are my favorite items from the ones we’ve picked so far. We’re still shopping, thinking and planning our future home together. I can’t wait to shake off the college and early 20’s clutter of my home and get a more refined, simplistic home!

STUDIO SOUTH

13527839694_82f34364e5_bThis time last week I had the pleasure of visiting the all-female creative space Studio South.  They hosted an evening of networking, photoboothing, sipping and nibbling. One of the best parts of the night was that I was able to finally meet several people I had connected with online but hadn’t met in ‘real life’ such as photographer Paige Jones. While I was there I had my Mark II snapping photos of the amazing decor and styling. Really like how moody they turned out, take a look-

ROOT CITY MARKET X VSCOCAM 5

13209853694_790e1d5e78_bLucky for me I was informed by my in-the-know roommate about the Root City Market that happened on Saturday afternoon over at the adorable Avondale Estates.  It was such a delight perusing around the pop-up artist market checking out locally made goods!  Along with shopping I ran into several familiar faces as well as met a couple new creative thinking friends.  To top things off, even though the forecast called for rain it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Recently purchased the Visual Supply Company Lightroom plug-in and used the images I snapped at this event as an opportunity to practice using the film pack. Love the graininess and mood the films add to the images!  The plug-in was easy to install and even easier to use, I’m very excited with how this will cut down my editing time as well as give my photos a film-like life!

13209704673_e085544687_bI’m wearing my Anthro jumper, H&M tee, Sam Edelman boots, Vintage Saks Fifth Ave. bag and TOMS shades.

His pop-up shop was great and his online selection is even better!

I knew when I was driving down Ponce on my way home that these canary yellow bushes would make for great picture. So I did what any photographer would do and did a u-turn, put my flashers on and ran to said yellow bushes and snapped till I was satisfied and then returned to my illegally parked car! Worth it!

I love Atlanta for so many reasons and events like this make that love grow stronger. After the market I returned home to lay around and then when I got bored with that hit up my roommate who was porch hanging in Cabbagetown and joined her and her man. We made burgers, sipped beer and had a fire in their backyard pit before heading to Estoria and playing Buck Hunter.  I will say I impressed onlookers with a great shot at first and then slowly started to suck and then competitive me started to get less and less into the game but besides missing imaginary deer-what a day!  Yesterday, Dustin returned to my arms after a weekend of camping and shooting (real) guns with his buddies in Butler, GA.  He told me about their adventures over beermosas and brunch at Midway. A weekend with friends, art and a nap squeezed in-I’m one happy gal!  Hope everyone has a good day back on the grind! xo. FLASHY

DECOR: MIRRORS

image1

[Please welcome my first contributor, Ciara Sames, to LF!]

Hi Lady Flashback friends! I’m so excited to be sharing interior spaces and inspiration here on Jess’s blog. I’m a graphic designer during the day, but I’ve been interested in decorating ever since I was a kid. I plan on sharing some decorating tips, home trends, and just general home eye candy. Today I’m going to be sharing a little insight on decorating with mirrors.

image2

It’s easy to overlook mirrors as a decorating element for anything other than your bathroom or your bedroom, but the truth is, mirrors can work in any room. They help open the space up and reflect more light into a sometimes dark room.

When looking for a mirror for your room, think about the statement you want to make with it. Do you want to add it to a collection of framed art, or do you want to make an impact with a grand mirror? Think about whether you’re for something new and modern or vintage. Adding a vintage mirror to your modern space can bring in a fresh, eclectic feel.
