CIDERFEST XI

22321304122_406250c4c3_k

Saturday marked the 11th annual Ciderfest in Adair Park!  I couldn’t believe it, eleven years, and somehow it was my first time attending! It’s not a super official event-no website, mostly promoted on Facebook-but they do take cider-making passionately.

Writing this post made me wonder how it got started, so I asked my friend Katherine who helps organize the event and she told me that when it first originated the apples were picked from all over the city’s public trees. Then one year they had wayyy too many and so they donated them, which sparked Concrete Jungle, which I wrote about here.  Through scouring the city for apple trees for the festival they quickly realized that Atlanta had a lot of unused fruit-bearing trees and bushes. A fun event birthed an organization that helps feed our cities homeless population-that’s Atlanta for you-making fun things good and good things FUN!

Ciderfest in a nutshell:

Take thousands of apples -> Toss them into a couple silly hand-cranked and pedal-powered machines -> Pulverize those lovable fruits into a fine fresh cider” -from the FB event page

The apples are sourced from Mercier Orchards but some of them do still come from picking around the city, however, they don’t want to take away from what they donate.  Attendees bring their own jugs, mugs and storing devices to sip and take some home as well as something to eat and share.  There’s live music, trampolines, DIY screen printing and all the socializing your heart desires!

Our drinking apparatus made by local guys, Go Forth Goods. We added a saison beer to the cider to cut the sweetness and add some bubbles-recommend that or some whiskey ;)

The homeowner, host and co-founder of the fest, Angel, has a dreamy backyard packed out with pretty flowers, eucalptus and persimmon trees! Not pictures a chicken coop and the under-construction Beltline!

Free People overalls, Target plaid shirt, Frye boots, Madewell totes, UO hat & Kate Spade shades.

Afterwards we went to the Little Five Halloween parade and then chowed down on Mexican at our favorite, Elmyriachi. A good weekend indeed!

QUEEN OF CREAMERY

The most charming little ice cream shop recently opened up on the Old Forth Ward side of the city.  Queen of Cream, serves up locally sourced house-made ice cream, coffee and baked goods in a natural light filled storefront on Highland Ave with the cutest furnishes and accents!  Instead of having a groom cake at the wedding, we are having three different ice cream flavors, so we went to have a tasting and to finalize the plans. While I was there I snapped photos to share this adorable parlor with you all!

*Naturally* we tried the salted caramel and brown butter whiskey pecan first! Then went on to the guava cheese cake and chocolate. We ended up choosing the pecan as a final flavor, made up a raspberry swirl concoction and Dustin invented another flavor which I’ll keep a secret for our wedding guests! They’ll be serving out of their cart, which I photographed a while back here. It’s going to be so cute outside the barn!

I just saw on Instagram they are delivering through the app Doordash. Ice cream (and coffee!) at your doorstep, now that’s dangerous!

DIXON RYE

21419798113_8a09681b66_k

Dixon Rye is the Westside’s newest retail addition carrying an array of items for your home and tables.  It resides in the old Atlanta Iron Works building between tons of really great restaurants and the Westside Provisions District.

They invited media and friends over to take a peak at all their hard work and oh my did they do a fantastic job with the building’s makeover, it’s unreal dreamy – inside and out!

My date for the night was my Maid of Honor, the trendy Ashleigh-

These chairs! I watched everyone pause and admire these beauties.. I may have gone back to them around eight times, so good!

Bradley the owner, a Mississippi native, has helped opened 80+ West Elms across the US then he went back to school at SCAD Atlanta when he was 40 to get his interior design degree – Impressive resume right?? It’s no wonder Dixon Rye is stunningly curated!

The indigo pillows were my favorite accents.  I’m not surprised since they look like our cyanotype wedding invites as well as the indigo table napkins we made, I don’t stray far from what I like!

Madewell Opening Party | Ponce City Market

21068742286_a34f1eb92d_k

Tuesday was the Madewell X Cool Atlanta opening party welcoming the newest addition to Ponce City Market!  I attended wearing just about all things Madewell including a relatively new dress I’ve worn around 4-5 times already because it’s just that good.

Black: check.  Unique straps and neckline: check. Cutout: check. Tassels: check! On sale: CHECK! (unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s on the site anymore, otherwise I’d share a link to it)

The location is nestled between Jcrew, Lululemon, Anthro and Frye -it’s basically a one-stop shopping area!

Ah, overalls. Speaking my language dressing up these cuties with a big-ole purse!

Pretty rad how Madewell carries other brands both in their store and online.  It makes for a well-rounded shopping experience

This little teepee incense holder didn’t go home with me that night, but rest assured it’ll be an addition at the Smith-Winchester household soon!

Processed with VSCOcam with a4 preset

This season of Madewell is pretty casual, which is A-Ok with me! Loved all the plaid clothing from liners of jackets to button downs, plaid is definitely ‘in’ this upcoming Fall!

Madewell X Vans. The backside zipper adds a girly touch to these guys.  I have my heart set on getting a pair of high top all-white Chucks but these are definitely a backup if I change my mind.

Not sure if it’s the corner of the building layout or the fact the party had the place packed to the brim but it feels smaller than other Madewells but in a good way. Like you’re walking into a boutique versus a chain-brand store, if that makes sense.

I had the pleasure of chatting with the marketing manager and several other employees and they were just the sweetest, so hit it up knowing you’ll be treated right!

CHROME YELLOW TRADING CO.

20417099658_70ea1258a1_k

Atlanta is on a rise and with it is the team over at Chrome Yellow. They opened the pop-up on the Westside I wrote about here while they worked on their permanent location and just last weekend served their first cup of coffee to the public. I went over on Saturday which was their second official day and had the delight of meeting the husband + wife duo behind the business. While chatting with them I enjoyed the bold yet smooth flavor of the Stumptown cold brew nitro that they have on draft (draft coffee, how cool, right?!)

Next on their agenda is debuting the boutique side of the shop which has brands like Ace & Jig, Rogue Territory, Another Feather and a whole lot more. Can’t wait to see the merchandising and attend the grand opening party! Check out the coffee side’s minimal, clean vibes:

I was flying solo since Dustin was fishing in North Georgia so I picked him up a bottled cold brew to enjoy when he got back.  He’s the sweetest and shared with me since I hadn’t tried this one and we both thought it was yummy.  I particularly liked the lack of bitterness.

Ran into Cameron of Atlanta Street Fashion and he snapped my outfit, thanks buddy!
