LADY FLASHBACK

MY FAIR LADIES

13371080415_0da2e6932c_bATL was so pretty this weekend Dustin and I took advantage of the comfortable evening temperatures and visited the Atlanta Fair over by Turner Field with a group of our friends.  On the walk over from our parking lot things were already getting kooky being that we were getting hustled to buy baby turtles and Krispy Kreme donuts so we knew we were in for an interesting night!  Since neither of us trusted the rides we only rode the ferris wheel which scared us a few times with strange noises but was overall fun and romantic. Dustin got tricked into playing balloon darts but then when we were “rewarded” with a prize and I picked the unicorn I was pleasantly surprised when it came with a rainbow! (see second to last photo of rainbow unicorn in my hand)

13371465814_d83b721cf7_bThought this ferris wheel photo looked neat in b/w since you wouldn’t expect it and the lights really pop.   If you live in or around Atlanta I’d suggest going with some friends, even if you don’t ride anything there’s always funnel cakes and corn dogs and if you’re into it, baby turtles…!

In other news, tomorrow I turn 28. No, I’m not going to have a panic attack or get worked up over the fact I’m nearly 30, there’s no way around getting older just gotta suck it up and roll on. In my mind I’m still 24 but just keep gaining more and more responsibilities and partying less.  I doubt I’ll feel or notice the difference between 27 and 28 but I’ll keep ya posted!

THE WEAVER HOUSE

vscofilm_weaverhouse29Happy first day of Spring!  From the looks of Facebook and Instagram, everyone is pretty excited about it including myself! As I mentioned previously, I just bought the newest VSCO film pack for Lightroom and while perusing their site, specifically the features section, I came across an article on The Weaver House that was very inspiring.  The Weaver House is a site and online creative corner for twin sisters Hannah and Kelty. These girls wear many hats including photographers, stylists, web and print designers and online shop owners.  I discovered them through their interview by VSCO which featured images they took for Verily Magazine-

The Weaver House was approached by Verily Magazine to do a fashion shoot for their first print issue. With a theme inspired by the attire of Emily Dickinson, Hannah & Kelty assembled a small and talented group of artists and friends, together fashioning a set of awe-inspiring imagery.

Inspired by Emily Dickinson’s stylish habit of wearing white dresses, they invited us to produce a 14-page spread based on a quote about Emily from Mabel Loomis Todd: “She dresses wholly in white, and her mind is said to be perfectly wonderful.”

We were smitten with the notion of taking this theme and running with it, and immediately signed on, starting a Pinterest board with inspiration to build upon. We were lucky to reel in some incredibly talented local friends and stylists, from clothing to the model to props to makeup and hair. We shot the spread on Kelty’s farm just outside Portland, where we had free reign to climb, forage and snap photos to our hearts’ content.

I really enjoy their interpretation of the vibe that Verily requested. I’ve been chatting with a local musician about doing something similar to this out at Stone Mountain or Arabia Mtn and with this new film pack need to nail down details quick, I want to edit and play around with films!

ROOT CITY MARKET X VSCOCAM 5

13209853694_790e1d5e78_bLucky for me I was informed by my in-the-know roommate about the Root City Market that happened on Saturday afternoon over at the adorable Avondale Estates.  It was such a delight perusing around the pop-up artist market checking out locally made goods!  Along with shopping I ran into several familiar faces as well as met a couple new creative thinking friends.  To top things off, even though the forecast called for rain it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Recently purchased the Visual Supply Company Lightroom plug-in and used the images I snapped at this event as an opportunity to practice using the film pack. Love the graininess and mood the films add to the images!  The plug-in was easy to install and even easier to use, I’m very excited with how this will cut down my editing time as well as give my photos a film-like life!

13209704673_e085544687_bI’m wearing my Anthro jumper, H&M tee, Sam Edelman boots, Vintage Saks Fifth Ave. bag and TOMS shades.

His pop-up shop was great and his online selection is even better!

I knew when I was driving down Ponce on my way home that these canary yellow bushes would make for great picture. So I did what any photographer would do and did a u-turn, put my flashers on and ran to said yellow bushes and snapped till I was satisfied and then returned to my illegally parked car! Worth it!

I love Atlanta for so many reasons and events like this make that love grow stronger. After the market I returned home to lay around and then when I got bored with that hit up my roommate who was porch hanging in Cabbagetown and joined her and her man. We made burgers, sipped beer and had a fire in their backyard pit before heading to Estoria and playing Buck Hunter.  I will say I impressed onlookers with a great shot at first and then slowly started to suck and then competitive me started to get less and less into the game but besides missing imaginary deer-what a day!  Yesterday, Dustin returned to my arms after a weekend of camping and shooting (real) guns with his buddies in Butler, GA.  He told me about their adventures over beermosas and brunch at Midway. A weekend with friends, art and a nap squeezed in-I’m one happy gal!  Hope everyone has a good day back on the grind! xo. FLASHY
