Trader Vic’s

hidden below the Hilton Atlanta downtown is Trader Vic’s, a tiki lounge and restaurant with a Polynesian-meets-Elvis Presley-meets-Hawaii family vacation vibe. they have a long list of Island drinks served in sea shells and delicious food prepared by Chef Cheing Phour. I’ve visited the bar area twice before, once was for this years birthday and I blogged about it (here) and another time was also for a friends birthday. it’s a great spot for birthdays or a night on the town and pretending that you’re going out to eat on a beach vacation. Dustin and I had the pleasure of sampling appetizers with some of Atlanta’s food bloggers and learning more about the history of the restaurant and even how to make a Mai Tai! I kept to my usual mojito and lived vicariously through all the pretty fruit adorned cocktails while noshing on my favorite: coconut shrimp!

this is the flower crown I started making at V+VJJZ but finished at home. materials came from Michael’s, old flower leftovers from project #1 for Common Creativ and a few are from Jess Jones’ crown leftovers, a smorgasbord if you will!
outfit side note-I’m excited to style this skirt in a different way. preferably with heels and maybe a crop top. the peplum detail is really fun and flattering for my figure but makes choosing a shirt more of a challenge-or at least with my wardrobe. I knew diving into the peplum scene wouldn’t come as natural but I’m into trying out something new!
thanks for having us Trader Vic’s! city “vacation” night anyone??

THE DAILY

floralnlace2
here’s an outfit I wore to a ladies crafting + vino night we had last week. since a bunch of my gal pals had been asking me to show them how I’ve learned to make flower crowns I figured why not tie it into our monthly meetup so that’s what we did over at Natalie from Pocket of Presh’s house!
floralone
above is one I made over Easter weekend and brought it along as an example. the purple flowers are actually oldies I had stashed away from high school!

today marks my 27th year of being on planet earth!
celebrated early on Friday evening at Trader Vic’s Tiki Bar in the Hilton hotel in Downtown. with my mom and her Bama friend in tow, Ryan and I met up with a group of friends for sugary island drinks while wearing Hawaiian themed outfits!

picked up the phone to pretend dial for a “neat photo” and for some UNKNOWN reason started to dial 911. perhaps the child in me took over my adult senses, but luckily I realized what I was doing and punched several non-emergency numbers. thinking we would have been escorted out much quicker than when they really asked us to leave, which was after they had closed up shop at midnight!

since Ryan had surprised me with a corsage made of orchids and had a matching boutonniere for himself, we decided it was appropriate to slow dance in the middle of everyone–the catch was that there wasn’t any music!

this night, as you might imagine, was awesome!
thanks to my buddy Darius for snapping these rad photos-one could learn a thing or two from his lighting usage.  Friday night was only the start of the weekend celebrations as the next day Ryan and I drove to Hilton Head for his sister’s collegiate golf tournament and a mini vacay. Saturday was mostly driving and settling into the condo, but also included a lovely birthday dinner with his folks at an authentic Italian restaurant where I was served sorbet in an ice sculpture!
Sunday was forecasted for crap weather, but it actually ended up being beautiful, so we rented beach cruisers and shredded some sand and waves! like any good day at the beach, Coronas were involved as well as sunscreen and pool times.
thanks to my mom, friends, and boyfriend I can’t boast about this birthday enough! for the real birthday dinner we are going to The Lawrence in Midtown, after that it’s exercising time because next stop: HAWAII!

FLOWER POWER

for this month’s LF X COMMON CREATIV DIY + DRINK i made a flower crown from faux flowers, felt and floral wire. after browsing through other blogger’s tutorials i found multiple ways of producing the crown and through my own small battle this method, in my opinion, is the best way for a professional result that’ll last. here are some pics, see Common Creativ for full instructions, post and drink recipe!

ended up not using my dogwood flowers so i used them to create a simple version using only 3 ingredients: flowers, hot glue & thick floral wire. way easy!
