WIGWAM WELLNESS FESTIVAL SERIES

Remember this post where I mentioned I’d be helping with the Wigwam Wellness Festival Series? Well, I’ve been in full swing since March!  The first date was April 12th and I attended the fest as a guest to get acquainted and have my own Wigwam experience, it was awesome and it made me so proud to be involved! This past weekend I attended as the photographer and though the first half was during a torrential downpour, the ladies behind the logistics pulled it off without a hitch, and that day was awesome as well!  Along with photographing, I’ve been running the Instagram account, which is really fun because it involves spicing up photos with boho graphics using the Rainbow Love App and A Beautiful Mess.

I compiled my favorite photos from 4/19 that will give you an idea of what the Wigwam Experience is all about.

Each morning starts with a welcome ceremony that consists of a variety of music, motivation, meditation, huzzahs and a gong! Then everyone goes off to their first experience. Followed by a 15 minute break then onto the next experience.

Each festival date has vendors that sell goods during the day. To name a few there has been -organic makeup, oils, camping gear, yoga mats, soy candles and cold pressed juices!

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is something in and of itself a magical place. It’s really the perfect spot for a yoga and wellness retreat with it’s 127 acres of beautiful trees, flowers, lakes, preservation areas, bird exhibits, butterfly gardens…the list goes on!

The lineup includes classes for all levels and the instructors are really sweet and help the beginners and also give the experienced yogis a chance to push themselves.

Photographing this event is a different pace for me.  I’m used to event photography, but adding fitness and lots of movement makes it a really fun challenge! I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s experience, especially since the sun is supposed to make an appearance. Check out the line up for 4/26 and 5/3 and come out and join us!

WIGWAM WELLNESS FEST

I am so excited to share with you all that I’m going to be a part of Wigwam Wellness Festival coming to the Atlanta area in April and May!  I’ll be posting to social media important updates and information as well as photographing the event. Here’s what Wigwam Wellness Fest is all about—

The experience is a trendy wellness festival series featuring “local celeb” yoga & alternative fitness instructors, wellness-related keynote speakers, healing arts, safe vendors (face/body products, organic clothing, etc) and clean eating. This experience will weave together body, mind + spirit resources and provide insight on how to make simple tweaks in everyday life that create powerful outcomes.

On Friday we met at the festival location, The Chattahoochee Nature Center, for a team powwow and tour.  We had an indoor picnic and met one another over a beautifully prepared lunch.  Here is the group of Atlanta women making Wigwam possible! Each lady has their strong suit and together we make one bad-to-the bone team!

In a nutshell– Jennifer is the event producer, Karina is the copy writer, Jessica Murphy is the talent liaison, Sarah is the graphic designer, Jenny is the chef and clean eating instructor and has the help of her assistant Jessica Hanners, Julia is the stylist (and maker of the awesome headdresses and cheese platter!) and Ashlee is the vendor and sponsor leader.

Should have taken the photo when it wasn’t partially eaten but I’ll admit it, I got side-tracked: by cheese! Julia did such a good job putting together our powwow, even brought a record player for the tunes!

I really fell for this area mostly because of the large tree that sits in the middle of the property.  Trees have so many meanings, i.e. wisdom, eternal life, strength-just to name a few, so I think this area is perfect to be in the center of Wigwam Fest! The land just to the left will be the vendor market.

The building you see here is where outdoor yoga will be held. Facing water and a beautiful view, it’s such a pleasant spot for a peaceful exercise.

This is Jennifer. She’s been planning and executing events in Atlanta for some time. She’s passionate about bringing people together whether it’s to party, mentor or cleanse.

There are several paved trails around the nature center leading to exhibits like rescued birds, i.e. a bald eagle and butterfly gardens.

The property has a garden area where instructors will teach courses as well as share gardening tips.

This group of ladies has me thankful to be a strong, freelancing woman in Atlanta! Thrilled to see this experience come to life!

FESTIVAL FASHION | MUSIC MIDTOWN ’14

IMG_7747-2
This time around I felt more inclined to enjoy myself and not worry with photos. However, the fashion loving photographer in me still chased down some ladies for a quick snap of their outfits or details. As usual they were stoked so it made it all the better for me and my efforts!

This year’s festival fashion was what you’d expect–flower crowns, high waist shorts, kimonos and floppy hats.  So many people were hating on the fashion trends but I like seeing flower crowns and mom shorts.  Yea, I agree, not everyone should sport revealing clothing (re: butt cleavage) or turn into a bohemian for the sake of a music festival but I appreciate the effort some people put into getting ready!

Thanks to the ladies who stopped for photos!

Hope you all had a good weekend. Ours included BBQ, workout, Outkast and Atlanta Streets Alive. Needless to say, we are pooped!

MUSIC MIDTOWN 2014

outfit
I’m happy to say that mine and Dustin’s curse of rainy outdoor music has been broken! This years Music Midtown was absolutely gorgeous-no ponchos or rain boots-just warm pre-Fall sun! We were especially excited since we took advantage of living on the Beltline and rode our bikes both days using the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s bike valet service, so easy and convenient! Music Midtown made a few changes this year with stage setups and policies but my favorite change, or rather upgrade was the expanded artist and vendor market area. There was a short time frame we didn’t care to see the bands playing so we grabbed a beer and walked around looking at the jewelry, handmade guitars, folk art, blown glass, and more-it was a nice break.

Our beer of choice and even better that it’s local! There wasn’t a ton of choices so if it’s between a light, watered down beer or a flavorful high gravity for a little more, you’ll find us always going to the more bang for your buck option.

The back of this top was perfectly breezy for a music fest! Leave it to Free People to create the best attire for such occasions.

Outfit details: Free People top and jean, Birkenstock sandals, vintage bag and Oakley shades

This years crowd flags and markers were really fun, couldn’t help but snap this hip Mario! On day two we stood by someone’s flag and used it to our benefit to help friends find us. Maybe next year we’ll actually bring something fun and creative though it seems like a chore to keep up with anything other than yourself or group and belongings!

Friday’s lineup for us included Bear Hands, Run DMC, Lorde and Jack White. All very different but the one artist that stole the show was Lorde! She had killer dance moves, changed into three different outfits and had huge bubbles raining from above the stage! Whoever said she was boring live was proved wrong, she really impressed this lady!

Day Two’s Outfit which I coined the “hipster farmer look” was comfy and breathable during the peak of the heat.

Details: Free People hat, Madewell shirt, Target overalls, Clarks desert boot, vintage bag and Oakley sunglasses

Saturday’s lineup for us included Sleeper Agent, Third Eye Blind, Twenty One Pilots, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bastille and Eminem. The artist that was my favorite, and I wasn’t surprised, was Fitz! We didn’t attempt to get close to really anyone else but knew there show would be fun up close so we got there early and camped out which proved to be way worth it! Frontman, Michael and his co-vocalist Noelle have really great energy and boogied down!

This bearded man of mine loves concerts about as much as I do, if not MORE! Couldn’t ask for a better festival companion! Processed with VSCOcam with e6 preset
Next up we are going to Outkast, Kid Cudi and Childish Gambino this weekend at Centennial Olympic Park. Bought these tickets so long ago and can’t wait to see Outkast perform in their hometown-should be epic!

THROWBACK THURSDAY

pic_0007
First of all, happy long weekend and Independence Day! I wanted to share these really cool 35mm photos Dustin took several months back with a roll of Lomography film using his grandfathers camera. I posted about some regular 35mm back in April, see the photos in this post.

On our walk to the festival at Atlantic Station, the mechanical engineer couldn’t resist this smokestack from the original steel mill.

Dustin nailed this shot, we had to get permission to get this close since there was a security fence but this photo was worth bugging the security guard!

We really enjoyed our round two experience at Shaky Knees, read about it in detail in this post.

Bike love, that blue light leak is awesome!

Keeping cool at Dogwood Festival, wearing Cynthia Rowley shirt, Superga sneakers, and H&M shorts (promise I’m wearing pants!)

Flynn judging all the cyclists and runners on the Beltline. His favorite thing is to chill on the ledge of our window, which is somewhat terrifying to us because we are technically on the 4th floor. Since it’s gotten so hot we aren’t able to open the windows as much, in turn we are having less panic attacks!

On another note, I know I’ve been slacking on LF posts, I was on a roll there for a while and lately just find myself so exhausted at the end of the day. Between keeping up with the new site, I Spy Atl, and daily life I just don’t have a ton of content for this blog. Actually right this second I’m working on this post and TWO for I Spy, definitely respect ladies who juggle blogs and have a family, don’t know how they do it! I do know that it’ll come back to regularity organically like it has in the past, as I’ve always gone through phases of blog productivity, so just bare with me!

Have a safe and fun weekend!
