MY FAIR LADIES

13371080415_0da2e6932c_bATL was so pretty this weekend Dustin and I took advantage of the comfortable evening temperatures and visited the Atlanta Fair over by Turner Field with a group of our friends.  On the walk over from our parking lot things were already getting kooky being that we were getting hustled to buy baby turtles and Krispy Kreme donuts so we knew we were in for an interesting night!  Since neither of us trusted the rides we only rode the ferris wheel which scared us a few times with strange noises but was overall fun and romantic. Dustin got tricked into playing balloon darts but then when we were “rewarded” with a prize and I picked the unicorn I was pleasantly surprised when it came with a rainbow! (see second to last photo of rainbow unicorn in my hand)

13371465814_d83b721cf7_bThought this ferris wheel photo looked neat in b/w since you wouldn’t expect it and the lights really pop.   If you live in or around Atlanta I’d suggest going with some friends, even if you don’t ride anything there’s always funnel cakes and corn dogs and if you’re into it, baby turtles…!

In other news, tomorrow I turn 28. No, I’m not going to have a panic attack or get worked up over the fact I’m nearly 30, there’s no way around getting older just gotta suck it up and roll on. In my mind I’m still 24 but just keep gaining more and more responsibilities and partying less.  I doubt I’ll feel or notice the difference between 27 and 28 but I’ll keep ya posted!

GIRL PARTY PICNIC

13096816524_5bbcabbc79_bHere they are, the picnic pics! I’m extremely happy with how these turned out, we couldn’t have asked for better weather and the sun and shade were perfect for photo snapping. Everyone pitched in flowers, snacks, drinks and blankets to make the perfect hillside picnic area with DIY flower crown making. Some ladies brought their dogs and one sweet girl made a flower crown for her furry friend. Take a look at our Saturday afternoon by the Grant Park pond!-

13096803334_4a71470314_b13096600633_02760a7a9b_bThe youngest party girl sporting her crown made by momma, isn’t she adorable?! Even wearing a flower tank.

13096798674_60ebeebf9c_b13096790754_473b923982_bGir and her momma, she didn’t mind wearing the crown at all and walked around with it on her little furry head!

13096575593_f45776404c_bThese were the components to my crown. I learned from a few ladies that had made some really kick ass ones that it’s best to make little bundles-almost like boutonnieres-and then put it together on the crown structure. I liked this method a lot with using real flowers.

Anthro boots, Clothing Warehouse shades, Madewell necklace and a vintage charm bracelet I picked up at a clothing swap.

Like I said on many social media outlets, this day cannot be beat! Well, unless we just recreated it entirely and I’m so down for that (hint hint Allie!) It was nice chatting with old friends, making new ones and getting crafty. I’ve noticed at these types of events where there’s a craft along with party I usually get distracted for the first hour or so I’m there and then get going on the craft. My Vino and Vajayjayz group is making dream catchers on Tuesday along with the usual food and vino and while I know I’ll get distracted by wine and friends I hope to come home with a new one to put by my bed!

SIGNS OF SPRING

13051179194_883e6d1a4f_bThis weekend’s weather was unbeatable; the perfect balance of sun and cool breezes to keep you warm enough for a thin dress but cool enough not to break a sweat. My weekend was scheduled with fun times and though I was sick I didn’t let it stop me from joining in the activities. Friday we jumped on trampolines at Sky Zone for my girl friends birthday and much to my surprise it was exhausting!  I consider myself in-shape but was shocked at how worn out I got and fairly quickly, though in my defense I was on decongestants which made my heart beat a little faster than normal.  Afterwards we went back into town and had drinks and dinner at Villains in Midtown.  Saturday morning we hung out with the cats, made breakfast and cleaned up around the house. Then I made chicken salad and got my things ready for a Girl Party Picnic in Grant Park. I don’t want to say too much about this, other than it was AWESOME, because I’ll be working on the photos tonight and posting about the event in the next couple of days. Sunday was chores and Spring cleaning ending with rewarding myself with La Fonda chips and salsa, I wore this lovely Cynthia Rowley dress my momma gifted me a couple months back. The color, length and comfort make it a winner!!

13050841485_64b7c78786_bThe man behind the lens, my cutie, Dustin! Doesn’t he look good in my hat?!

13051200204_ba87625246_bI wore a Cynthia Rowley dress, H&M hat, girl friends sunnies, Rag O Rama sandals, MK purse and necklace c/o Free People.

13051185744_bed2f92a12_b 13051186684_5941e1b747_b13050878305_6b830c45b6_bThis man of mine has stolen my heart. He’s so sweet and loves to help me with WHATEVER I need, even blogging. He’s eager to get creative with my photos and it just means so much to me. The “holding the sun” photo above was his idea, be still my heart!  Yesterday’s walk to the restaurant was so nice, especially since I was holding hands with my other half.

End sappiness, HAPPY MONDAY!

Factory Flashy: MOLLY ROSE FREEMAN

molly_rose

Meet local artist Molly, she is part two of a new blog series called Factory Flashy where I visit workshops and studios of artists/craftsmen and women around ATL-read my first visit here.  I first met Molly at an art show for a mutual friend of ours and following the show got to know her over beers and quickly realized I liked this down to earth artist.  It was later I looked up her work and realized, HOLY COW she’s really talented! We arranged for a studio visit at her space at the Goat Farm and like I imagined it was very laid back conversations that felt like I was talking to an old friend who’s now become a new friend. I snapped photos of her studio and asked her some Who/What/Where/When/Why/How questions to help you get to know Miss Molly:

 what is your current project?

Through my Creatives Project residency, I’m putting together a workshop for One Love Generation, using shadow puppetry techniques to explore how light and movement can animate a personal mythology. I am working on my solo show at Beep Beep Gallery, which opens in May. It will combine painting, drawing and installation, as well as sound and light components.

For this show, I want to create an immersive, full-sensory experience: to transform the gallery into a live organism. I’m also going to Athens at the end of the month to paint a mural at the Hotel Indigo.

who do you admire?

I admire anyone with a good work ethic and a good sense of humor.

where is your favorite piece?

Pastel (Argentina) has a mural down the street from my house, near where Moreland hits Memorial in Reynoldstown. I am a true fan of his work, and of him, and it’s really special for me to be able to drive by it every day.

The above isn’t what you think, it’s not paint or pen it’s actually a process that she experimented with using a flame to burn the wood, I thought this was really neat and like her other work has perfect lines!

how did you get started painting murals?

I got tired of working small, especially since my work is pattern-based. I felt too trapped in my own head. So one day, I guess about three and a half years ago, I painted a piece that covered the whole back wall of my studio. It was an adrenaline rush; I felt like, for the first time, my mind and my body were completely in sync. From there I just painted whatever I could, wherever I could, as often as I could. I was blinded by purpose, didn’t want to focus on anything but painting walls: I was traveling all the time, my social life was dictated by my painting schedule, I was barely subsisting. But eventually I built up enough momentum and now I can breathe a little, make a living, choose projects that are the right fit for me. I hustled really hard to get here, I’m so grateful for this life.

This is a sketching of a mural for the Hollywood Mural Project, so it started out on this small piece of paper and then she transformed it to a larger than life piece! I can’t imagine having to think in that big of a scale, but she’s nailed the system.

why ATL?

The South is my home, I’m bound to the landscape here. I lived all over and when I came to Atlanta, I felt like I found the exact spot where I was supposed to land.

12487459234_74340d3ef5_b

when did you first realize you had artist skills?

When I was little, maybe four or five, I did this crayon drawing of minnie mouse wearing a wedding dress with a really elaborate veil and high heels and super long eyelashes. And the background was filled with stars (six pointed ones because I hadn’t figured out how to draw the five-pointed kind yet.) I used every color in the box, even some metallics, I spent days on that thing. And my mom put it in a plastic frame and hung it on the wall of our house. I didn’t realize it at the time but I think that recognition was the first time I saw drawing as a thing that could exist outside myself.

CRITICAL ASSS

Hope everyone survived their Monday! Over at my offices we are gearing up for the Apparel Show so it’s the usual pre-show crazy but it feels good to keep this month fast-paced since January seems to drag on and on.  This weekend Dustin and I saw the new movie, Wolf on Wall Street and had many’a good laughs! That film was wild, long and hilarious-definitely recommend if the F-word and nudity doesn’t offend you because Leo’s roll is phenomenal! We also attended the Winter Beer Fest at the Masquerade Music Park, of course we had lots of fun as we both love beer and live music.  In between these activities I snapped photos for Jezebel street style and visited Molly Rose Freeman‘s art studio at the Goat Farm. I’ll be working on those photos this week and will post a little interview with her soon. Today I’d like to share my photos from the lady bike ride, Critical Asss-

Ride started at Estoria in Cabbagetown and went through O4W to Little Five Points back around to the bar. It was a brisk sunny day that was filled with catching up with old friends and making a few new gal pals.

I gave our bike gang the name “Ally Cats” cause clearly are rebels that wreak havoc on the Beltline :P

To stay warm I wore an H&M hat, Gap sweatshirt, Gap denim shirt, 7 For All Mankind jeans (yes my ankles were cold!), new Asics from Free People.com and a Tulle Jacket I got via winning an Instagram contest via Need Supply

I don’t always bike in the cold, but when I do it’s with a bunch of kick asss ladies around the streets of ATL!
