LOMOGRAPHY 35MM FILM

17069635759_bc295d2b53_k

The scanner we ordered from Amazon came in and we immediately got to scanning all the film we had from months and months ago! For $100 this thing is awesome and will save us TONS of money when shooting film.  The Lomography film we used was color negative 100 ISO 35mm which you can buy for cheap here. This film loves the sun and creates interesting light leaks and color.

In this post there are photos from Edisto Island, The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Piedmont Park , Tennessee, Florida and good ole home life.

WIGWAM WELLNESS FESTIVAL SERIES

17052150379_86954ad914_k

Remember this post where I mentioned I’d be helping with the Wigwam Wellness Festival Series? Well, I’ve been in full swing since March!  The first date was April 12th and I attended the fest as a guest to get acquainted and have my own Wigwam experience, it was awesome and it made me so proud to be involved! This past weekend I attended as the photographer and though the first half was during a torrential downpour, the ladies behind the logistics pulled it off without a hitch, and that day was awesome as well!  Along with photographing, I’ve been running the Instagram account, which is really fun because it involves spicing up photos with boho graphics using the Rainbow Love App and A Beautiful Mess.

I compiled my favorite photos from 4/19 that will give you an idea of what the Wigwam Experience is all about.

Each morning starts with a welcome ceremony that consists of a variety of music, motivation, meditation, huzzahs and a gong! Then everyone goes off to their first experience. Followed by a 15 minute break then onto the next experience.

Each festival date has vendors that sell goods during the day. To name a few there has been -organic makeup, oils, camping gear, yoga mats, soy candles and cold pressed juices!

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is something in and of itself a magical place. It’s really the perfect spot for a yoga and wellness retreat with it’s 127 acres of beautiful trees, flowers, lakes, preservation areas, bird exhibits, butterfly gardens…the list goes on!

The lineup includes classes for all levels and the instructors are really sweet and help the beginners and also give the experienced yogis a chance to push themselves.

Photographing this event is a different pace for me.  I’m used to event photography, but adding fitness and lots of movement makes it a really fun challenge! I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s experience, especially since the sun is supposed to make an appearance. Check out the line up for 4/26 and 5/3 and come out and join us!

DRINK UP | MINTY OLD FASHIONED

17139717825_38c5b953fb_k

Sunday while I was at Wigwam Wellness Fest doing downward facing dogs and hip hop aerobics, Dustin was at home doing chores and being the sweetest supporter of my “Drink Up” posts and concocting his very own! He used liquor from our recent Stock the Bar housewarming party, our favorite West Elm tumblers and the best natural light from our dining room windows. He came up with an idea to make drinks from the liquor we got from our friends and give them a thank you shout out.  Thanks to Cline and Jonny for this awesome Thirteen Colony bourbon (and the mystery friend that gifted us bottle #2..)

I’m so grateful he enjoys my blogging and even gets involved, soooo grateful!  Check out Dustin’s recipe below:

Ingredients
Bourbon
Simple syrup (he made it*, but store-bought is fine too!)
Aromatic bitters
Mint
Cherry

Directions: In the glass muddle and remove the mint (use first two leaves for flavor only, adding in garnish last) then add 1/2 jigger syrup, 2 jiggers of bourbon, couple drops of bitters, a little of cherry juice and then stir around.  Carefully place in ice ball, garnish with cherry and mint. Lastly, enjoy!

*Simple syrup recipe- condensed 1 to 1 water to raw sugar boiled until dissolved with cinnamon and cloves

Fun fact: This bourbon is made right here in Georgia! Americus, GA to be exact!

SYDNEY ELOISE

Sydney Eloise and her band are recording a new album that will drop this Summer on vinyl.  They are aiming to do as much of the process, including album art, in analog form.  I loved this idea and was glad to get involved and shoot some photos of Sydney in the Highlands last week.  Dustin knows the Canon AE-1 way better than I do so he came along to shoot film and I shot instant with the Instax Mini.  Here are some of the photos we snapped —

We had the 35mm film from this day developed at a local shop but went ahead and invested in a scanner to save money now and down the road.  The place in Decatur wanted to charge us a $1 per scan and something like $5 for each print, and we had 5 rolls!  Excited to see how this new equipment changes the way Dustin and I capture memories. Perhaps even more film is in the future!  Even though the art of film has faded there are still photographers putting in the effort to shoot analog, like our wedding photographers. I also really like that Dustin has made it a hobby as well!

CHROME YELLOW | BRICK + MORTAR

16825136608_177c23959c_k

Before they move from the Westside to Edgewood I stopped in to the Chrome Yellow Trading Co. // Brick + Mortar popup shop. It’s one location shared by two companies- Chrome Yellow is the clothing, accessories, housewares and gifts part of the store and the decor is contributed by Brick + Mortar. The new location off Edgewood will have a coffee shop built in-a perfect combo of all the things I (and likely you) love!

Some of my favorite pieces from the Brick + Mortar collection were the taxidermy animals, like the above bull and the bear head in the last photo. Got a thing for stuffed dead animals and bones. I’m not at all creeped out by them, which is likely because I used to hunt with my dad back in middle and junior high school. I’m glad that it’s become a trend, but I’m sure the animals aren’t as stoked (ps: sorry not sorry Peta!)

Scroll down to see a tour of the shop-

First spotted these pendants on the Chrome Yellow Instagram and knew I must get one, decided on the navy color. It currently resides in our bedroom.

The brands of clothing and accessories are on point with labels like Ace + Jig, Boutonne, Rogue Territory, Alternative Apparel- just to name a few..

The two companies combined bring Atlanta a shop that is both unique and practical. A place you can stop in and get a gift or piece for your home and wardrobe, and soon to be added to the list: caffeine!

Hope on over to the shop + follow along on IG to keep updated and inspired @chromeyellowtradingco and @thisisbrickandmortar
