weekend wear 03

14040046389_ceab99bd33_bI think I’ve found a reoccurring entry I can actually keep up with- these ‘weekend wear’ posts are fun and easy! Especially since I spend my weekends with my honey and he’s a great photographer and I feel comfortable asking him because he loves helping me out and is super supportive of my blogging. I hope to get them up on Mondays but sometimes my Monday evening after work is more for playing catch up on chores and decompressing since the weekend often goes until Sunday night.

Unlike the previous two weekends we did not get BBQ instead kept our Friday simple and walked over to The Bookhouse pub, one of my favorite pubs for Oberon on draft and a yummy dinner. On the walk over I commented about the chilly weather and Dustin said “yea, we’re having a ‘blackberry winter’..” to which I replied “oh yea? didn’t know that was a thing.”  He didn’t either until one of his coworkers had told him about it so we were both new to this Southern term which refers to a cold front that coincides with the time-frame that blackberries are in bloom.  As expected it didn’t last long since it’s about to be real deal summer here in Hotlanta. Always glad to take advantage of a cool front and continue wearing Spring layers and open up the windows in my loft. Speaking of layering, this “dress” has to be layered because it doesn’t cover much, don’t even think tights would be appropriate but with jeans it works!  Pretty hilarious when my mom gave it to me on a family trip last year and I put it on and came out and my brother was like “ah Jess!” and mom and dad said “oh no, think it’s a *little* too short!” OOPS!

14246879113_705d1a1ffb_bDuring the pre-Shaky knees Party at Free People White Provisions I was given one of these cute totes and it’s been my purse for the last week.  It’s been great because I like having a casual day time bag I can toss all of my chunky things in like planner and journal and then if I go out change things over to a smaller more dressy bag.

The majority of the weekend was spent with my girlfriends on a mini getaway in Ball Ground, Georgia. Eleven of us caravaned up to my friends parents home in the mountains where we hiked, cooked out, day drank and played Cards Against  Humanity.  I left my camera at home and focused on enjoying time with my friends, though I did document all of our amazing meals for Instagram! I love how just an hour and fifteen minute drive up the interstate and it feels like you are in a totally different state all together~

Hope you’ve been enjoying my little weekend recaps, expect to see more!

weekend wear 02

14120949162_7562634e51_bThis past weekend we went to another BBQ restaurant, Fox Brothers Barbecue.  Surprisingly it was my first time. I say surprisingly because if you live in Atlanta it’s like a right of passage to eat at Fox Brothers, but, somehow I hadn’t. Since we had just gone to Sweet Auburn the weekend before it was only natural that we compared the two. We both agreed we like the sides better at Sweet Auburn but both places’ BBQ was very good and authentic to the traditional Southern style that Dustin and I are both used to eating.  Before dinner we explored around Dekalb Ave at one of my favorite murals that is part of Living Walls from a few years back. The mural I’m standing in front of is by Swamp Donkey and the other (sitting photo) is by Greg Mike, an Atlanta local.

I’m wearing a Zara shirt and undershirt, UO jeans, Sam Edelman boots, H&M jacket and Free People necklace.

I don’t know about you but my week has been a little crazy thus far, and it’s only Tuesday. And it’s only going to get more nutty since I’ll be heading to the Lady Gaga concert with my mom in just a few hours, that’s right-Lady Gaga with my Mom! We both wanted to go but are also tying it into Mother’s Day celebrations because we won’t see each other this weekend since I’ll be at another music event, Shaky Knees Festival. I’m so freaking excited, for both! Tonight we are dressing the part too in full head-to-toe Lady Gaga worthy attire!  So much music this week!  Last year I wrote about the muddy 2-day fest here and here and if you recall through other blog posts that’s where I met Dustin! This past Sunday (May 4th) was actually our 1-year meetiversary, so thankful for that rainy night!

WHITE DENIM

13904419694_a88f5935ca_bHope everyone is having a great Monday thus far. Post-long weekend Mondays are the toughest but you got this, just may take an extra cup of coffee!  I’ve had a little more caffeine than normal mostly since Dustin and I skipped town on Friday afternoon for a weekend with my folks in Alabama, which is a 8ish hour round trip. Not terribly long but 4 hours of forests and open roads always wears me out.  Over the weekend we went to the University of Alabama scrimmage, sat by the pool at their new home, grilled out and watched a 2-disc Eagles documentary with my dad.  Feel like I went back to the 70’s and saw them live, so good!

Since I’m not ready to fully recap the blogger closet sale, I’ll share these photos of my outfit that I wore from the event. Thank goodness I went with a light material top because as you can see the sun was beaming!

Enjoy the Cadbury Eggs, etc!

ROOT CITY MARKET X VSCOCAM 5

13209853694_790e1d5e78_bLucky for me I was informed by my in-the-know roommate about the Root City Market that happened on Saturday afternoon over at the adorable Avondale Estates.  It was such a delight perusing around the pop-up artist market checking out locally made goods!  Along with shopping I ran into several familiar faces as well as met a couple new creative thinking friends.  To top things off, even though the forecast called for rain it turned out to be a beautiful day!

Recently purchased the Visual Supply Company Lightroom plug-in and used the images I snapped at this event as an opportunity to practice using the film pack. Love the graininess and mood the films add to the images!  The plug-in was easy to install and even easier to use, I’m very excited with how this will cut down my editing time as well as give my photos a film-like life!

13209704673_e085544687_bI’m wearing my Anthro jumper, H&M tee, Sam Edelman boots, Vintage Saks Fifth Ave. bag and TOMS shades.

His pop-up shop was great and his online selection is even better!

I knew when I was driving down Ponce on my way home that these canary yellow bushes would make for great picture. So I did what any photographer would do and did a u-turn, put my flashers on and ran to said yellow bushes and snapped till I was satisfied and then returned to my illegally parked car! Worth it!

I love Atlanta for so many reasons and events like this make that love grow stronger. After the market I returned home to lay around and then when I got bored with that hit up my roommate who was porch hanging in Cabbagetown and joined her and her man. We made burgers, sipped beer and had a fire in their backyard pit before heading to Estoria and playing Buck Hunter.  I will say I impressed onlookers with a great shot at first and then slowly started to suck and then competitive me started to get less and less into the game but besides missing imaginary deer-what a day!  Yesterday, Dustin returned to my arms after a weekend of camping and shooting (real) guns with his buddies in Butler, GA.  He told me about their adventures over beermosas and brunch at Midway. A weekend with friends, art and a nap squeezed in-I’m one happy gal!  Hope everyone has a good day back on the grind! xo. FLASHY
