the girl in the bikini

Style:
Free People’s upcoming April “Dolce Vita” catalog will feature 3 photographers capturing 3 different story lines. of the three, my favorite is the “Girl in the Bikini” which is inspired by fashion icon Bridget Bardot.

The editorial showcases her 70’s boho vibe and 50’s/60’s sex kitten look as seen through the style of modern day Free People and lensed by Guy Aroch. This portion features the brand’s key swim pieces paired back to casual, effortless layering items.”

there are many reasons why this is my favorite but truth be told it probably has a lot to do with my Hawaii vacation getting closer and CLOSER! the other two story lines are really great as well but you’ll just have to wait and see for yourself! as always I’m looking forward to the issue landing as one of my fave little things in life is when the Anthro + UO + FP catalogs are waiting for me in the mailbox….true story!
hope you enjoyed the sneak peak!
happy FRIDAY!

today marks my 27th year of being on planet earth!
celebrated early on Friday evening at Trader Vic’s Tiki Bar in the Hilton hotel in Downtown. with my mom and her Bama friend in tow, Ryan and I met up with a group of friends for sugary island drinks while wearing Hawaiian themed outfits!

picked up the phone to pretend dial for a “neat photo” and for some UNKNOWN reason started to dial 911. perhaps the child in me took over my adult senses, but luckily I realized what I was doing and punched several non-emergency numbers. thinking we would have been escorted out much quicker than when they really asked us to leave, which was after they had closed up shop at midnight!

since Ryan had surprised me with a corsage made of orchids and had a matching boutonniere for himself, we decided it was appropriate to slow dance in the middle of everyone–the catch was that there wasn’t any music!

this night, as you might imagine, was awesome!
thanks to my buddy Darius for snapping these rad photos-one could learn a thing or two from his lighting usage.  Friday night was only the start of the weekend celebrations as the next day Ryan and I drove to Hilton Head for his sister’s collegiate golf tournament and a mini vacay. Saturday was mostly driving and settling into the condo, but also included a lovely birthday dinner with his folks at an authentic Italian restaurant where I was served sorbet in an ice sculpture!
Sunday was forecasted for crap weather, but it actually ended up being beautiful, so we rented beach cruisers and shredded some sand and waves! like any good day at the beach, Coronas were involved as well as sunscreen and pool times.
thanks to my mom, friends, and boyfriend I can’t boast about this birthday enough! for the real birthday dinner we are going to The Lawrence in Midtown, after that it’s exercising time because next stop: HAWAII!

LE CAPE

here it is, the aforementioned CAPE! been wearing this guy as much as possible before Georgia does the usual skipping of Spring and moves directly into blazing heat. haven’t worn it with anything but skinny jeans as of yet but need to quickly experiment before it’s packed away.

unlike the cape these Sam Edelman fringe ankle boots can be worn in all seasons. been wearing them since November and I see them being paired with dresses come Summer time!

SS:7

bundle-up-this-season-its-all-about-the-fur
welcome to the first of many SS:7’s!
what is SS:7 you ask? simple: its 7 street style images that are inspiring to my taste or as coincidence has it have similar characteristics in my wardrobe. don’t get me wrong, I love perusing sites like Vogue that showcase designer, runway and couture looks but this just isn’t as practical to my closet as it “live” on the street. even seeing models and bloggers wearing high ticket priced items seems more real to me then seeing it in editorial shots which is why I gravitate towards photos of outfits styled and being worn on the daily.

(none of these photos are taken by me, used for blog purposes only & found on Pinterest!)

many things in these 7 photos are currently circulating my wardrobe, ie the CAPE. a girl friend of mine-that shares my same name-gave me a cape jacket recently and I’ve already put it to good use. (outfit pictures to follow!)
next is the tomboy look, which lots of ladies are gravitating towards these days. I particularly like this look because it allows me to do my usual casual thing and still remain chic. large scarfs, ankle boots and fur collars have all been staples in my winter wear. having become better than ever at layering I’m looking forward to shedding the heavy layers and experimenting with layering in the Spring.
truth be told I’ve tried a few times since the “birth” of my blog to offer a reoccurring themed post and this time I’m going to do it, I can feel it! especially since I’m already crazily pinning and saving street style images….may as well put a habit to use!

enjoy your weekend and don’t forget to revisit come Tuesday for my cape debut!
