wishing you a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR!

the NYE Soiree in the Stars event at The Highland Inn Ballroom went better than anyone could have hoped!  the place was packed with well-dressed 20-somethings all VERY excited to ring in 2013!

above you can see my co-host//lovely roommate and i are posing in our very own and my first photobooth! btw we completely DIY’d it.  we rented the equipment, bought a remote (which I needed anyways for blogging, yay!), and then hung up sparkly things.  after sifting through nearly 600 photos I ended up posting something like 415 on my LF Facebook page! sadly, I was too busy prior to and during the event to remember to take shots of all the DIY’d decor Chelsea and I made, but I managed to take a few snaps the day after.  here are highlights from the night.  see the full set on www.facebook.com/ladyflashback

aside from Chelsea running the Ballroom Events office, she is also an accomplished artist. she free-handed these letters and covered them with glass glitter.  plus, she also made the wall stars and cut out the planets.  we were both extremely pleased with how the decor came together, SOOOOOO MANY STARS!

we bought different shades and patterns of white and cream fabrics and cut them into strips, then tied them onto cotton rope, and viola! DIY’d FRINGE! thanks to Jessica and Mallory for assisting in that project!
NEWYEARZ
aaaaand just for fun thought I’d share one of the funniest photos from the night.  this is silly and ridiculous, but I’m fairly certain someone was egging me on…..cough cough….ELIZABETH!

it’s post-New Years Eve party planning, and I’m in full-blown-show-mode at the Mart.  cue one of the biggest Gift Shows at Americasmart. ++CUE ANXIETY.

wish me luck and again, Happy 2013!

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas yesterday! The last few days have consisted of a healthy serving of rum balls and toffee, home videos, Catchphrase, comfy clothes and lots of laughter around the Smith house in Bamaland. Figured I’d let my Instagram snaps recap this holiday season.

ASHEVILLE [NC]

like i mentioned in my last post, my boyfriend and i traveled to Asheville, NC for a little weekend escape. while i love my city, it’s nice to get away and get a breath of fresh air in new surroundings. Ryan and i had both only spent a very brief time in Asheville prior to now so we wanted to make sure we soaked up as much as we could in our 2 short days.  Friday we arrived relatively late so we checked into the Renaissance Marriott, hit up the Asheville Barcade 2 (barcade=bar+arcade), had a dance off and a few beers and called it a night. Saturday’s ‘schedule’ was packed with brunch, breweries and exploring downtown as well as West Asheville. i had the new lens in tow and captured a large majority of the trip minus Saturday evening, unsure why the glam cam didn’t make it out, but per usual i’m going to let the photos do (most) of the talking!

-Wedge brewery notes-
this beer flight is not for the faint of heart as all the beers weigh in at an above average ABV % (alcohol by volume), average being near 5%. my favorite tipple was easily the Vadim. it is heavily reminiscent of an Earl Grey Tea Infused Italian Chocolate Mousse w/ Raspberry Port sauce i recently made for a friend’s birthday. just…YUM.
-Ryan, Native Crave

we weren’t really in a rush to head back home after our checkout Sunday morning, so we headed down the road to the Biltmore Estate. while it’s not a super cheap day trip, at $60 per ticket, you get to tour the entire Vanderbilt mansion and the Antler Hill winery + a ‘complimentary’ wine tasting at the end of the tour.

Cirque DATE Soleil

last week’s date night at Cirque du Soleil was quite an adventure! ryan and i had to rush through dinner, but luckily the pop-up restaurant Hudson North made it possible to get in a quick bite, a few drinks, and a couple pics before showtime. the performance was nothing shy of mind blowing. Cirque du Soleil specializes in the unbelievable, so of course the acrobatic stunts from the synchronized routines on the high bar to the high flying trapeze acts were indescribably good. get this, each act has its own live music that the performance hinges on being flawless, for the sake of the performers, and they did not disappoint. the story line was really enjoyable plus, the added humor and skits had us in stitches and they didn’t even speak! Cirque du Soleil is a good time, a solid date night, and there’s not a bad seat in the….TENT!

now playing til December 31st

Hudson North: there’s only 21 days left for this lil pop-up so visit quick! 19th Street W District Ave, near the movie theater in Atlantic Station-just a heads up: food is slightly spicier than listed, but the mason jar desserts are DELIGHTFUL!

post-show we were given a backstage glimpse into what goes into the Cirque du Soleil costumes, stage setup, the performers’ exercise schedule, life on the road, and so much more I didn’t capture!

my outfit from Friday, November 2nd
photos taken on the Beltline, “Atlanta’s newest revitalization effort providing a network of public parks, multi-use trails and transit re-using 22-miles of historic railroad corridors circling downtown and connecting 45 neighborhoods directly to each other.” if you live in the area or visit ATL is really is worth checking out, especially the artwork and installations along the way.
