QUEEN OF CREAMERY

21492879374_6c0675aced_k

The most charming little ice cream shop recently opened up on the Old Forth Ward side of the city.  Queen of Cream, serves up locally sourced house-made ice cream, coffee and baked goods in a natural light filled storefront on Highland Ave with the cutest furnishes and accents!  Instead of having a groom cake at the wedding, we are having three different ice cream flavors, so we went to have a tasting and to finalize the plans. While I was there I snapped photos to share this adorable parlor with you all!

*Naturally* we tried the salted caramel and brown butter whiskey pecan first! Then went on to the guava cheese cake and chocolate. We ended up choosing the pecan as a final flavor, made up a raspberry swirl concoction and Dustin invented another flavor which I’ll keep a secret for our wedding guests! They’ll be serving out of their cart, which I photographed a while back here. It’s going to be so cute outside the barn!

I just saw on Instagram they are delivering through the app Doordash. Ice cream (and coffee!) at your doorstep, now that’s dangerous!

Around the shop were these quirky prints from local photographer, Forrest Aguar.

SHOPBOP FRIENDS + FAMILY SALE

seeingplaid

With the steady decline in temperatures you’re probably realizing you need to add some more pieces to your wardrobe, I know I am after all the purging I’ve done this past season! We are in luck because Shopbop is having their 3-day Friends + Family sale offering 25% off site-wide! Yep, the entire site, also including their men’s site too, East Dane!

I’ve had my eyes on several of the pieces above, as well as a Peinfield jacket that I know I’d wear daily so I’ll definitely be taking advantage of this sale!

I’m guessing you spotted the trend: plaid, pretty quickly. It’s been back in style full force for some time now but I feel like this year it’s even bigger (or maybe it’s mostly Madewell who is really REALLY into it..) Either way, I’m cool with my Fall/Winter wardrobe having a lot of it so I took on the task and went thru all they have to offer, and in my opinion, these are the best pieces on the site. You’re welcome ;) I’ll be honest, I love browsing so it wasn’t a chore at all!

Dixon Rye is the Westside’s newest retail addition carrying an array of items for your home and tables.  It resides in the old Atlanta Iron Works building between tons of really great restaurants and the Westside Provisions District.

They invited media and friends over to take a peak at all their hard work and oh my did they do a fantastic job with the building’s makeover, it’s unreal dreamy – inside and out!

My date for the night was my Maid of Honor, the trendy Ashleigh-

The indigo pillows were my favorite accents.  I’m not surprised since they look like our cyanotype wedding invites as well as the indigo table napkins we made, I don’t stray far from what I like!

RECIPES | COOKING FLOURISHING FOODIE

For Saturday’s football watching meetup with friends I made a roasted cauliflower leek and carrot soup by Flourishing Foodie, recipe can be found here.

Overall it was easy it just got a little tricky when I transferred the soup into the blender since it had to be done in batches. Her recipe yielded about 6 servings – we shared with friends, had one small helping and then another medium size helping. Perfection!

She said to serve lukewarm, we ate it both ways. I preferred warmer.

Very much recommend!

Tonight I’m checking out Dixon Rye, a new homeware and design shop on the Westside in the old Atlanta Iron Works building. I’ll have the camera in tow so stay tuned for a peak inside the store!

RECIPES | COOKING SMITTEN KITCHEN

We had another rainy weekend so I took the downtime to continue on this baking streak I’ve got going.  Since I still had most of the buttermilk from last weekend I looked thru Smitten Kitchen and found her recipe for her “favorite buttermilk biscuits” which were easy peasy!

Couple things I did differently (and maybe shouldn’t have…)

-I don’t have a circle cookie so I used a small bowl which is not the same but worked fine.
-Thought we had baking soda and didn’t so we did some research and just adjusted the baking powder, it worked but I’d like to retry with ALL the ingredients in her recipe.
-Lastly, I rolled them out a little thinner than she had mentioned. Which made them rise a lot less (really not at all) but I didn’t mind. They were still light and for the breakfast sandwich (below) Dustin just doubled up with two.
-Add chopped rosemary which was a good idea but I wish I had just put in the mix versus on top (though I like the way it looks in the photo) because it would have stayed moist and we would have tasted it more. I love me some rosemary!

Overall, they tasted really really good! And like I mentioned, they were light and didn’t make us feel uncomfortably full.

On Sunday, I took the leftovers and made biscuits and gravy using local Delia’s chicken sausage.

Not pictured: the smothering we did with Cholula, we love that stuff!

Dustin and I were pleased with both meals. During the breakfast sandwich I exclaimed “I don’t want this to ennnnnd!” it was THAT good!

Next up, a leek + carrot + cauliflower soup via Flourishing Foodie!
