DRINK UP | TEMPLETON RYE COCKTAIL

Here’s a cocktail that’ll help you make it thru all the holiday shopping and forced family ‘fun’ times, it also happens to be our wedding’s groom signature cocktail!

For the wedding Dustin thought up this concoction then when I was approached to make a drink using Templeton Rye I thought “I should recreate our drink and share with the world!”

My direction was simple. Use the rye in the cocktail and use a Weybridge 1761 bow tie as inspiration. DONE.

I really liked how the bow tie was in the family of our wedding colors- a fun coincidence!

So, I took the recipe Dustin created (used the rye instead of the whiskey) and blended the ingredients together making a tasty golden libation and created a sartorial vignette tying (pun!) it all together!

See recipe below.

3 oz (or 2 large jigger pours) fresh apple cider
3 oz (or 2 large jigger pours) ginger beer
4.5 oz (or 3 large jigger pours) rye
Candied ginger for garnish and a snack!

Combine all ingredients, stir/swirl around, serve over ice, garnish and ENJOY THE GOOD STUFF -Templeton Rye

COQUI COQUI

In addition to swimming in cenotes and experiencing in-Mexico-only adventures I had one big request on our to do list- visit Coqui Coqui-a hotel, perfumery, spa and restaurant on the beach. We almost didn’t fit it in our busy schedule but on the last day, just hours before our flight, we got in a visit.

The building is a unique kind of rustic. Definitely has Mayan vibes with the stone work with added minimal chic touches in the decor and furnishings.  I really like the flat roofs and linear walls. The owners did a fantastic job adding just the right amount of details while keeping it simple.

Even outside the door to the perfumery you can smell all the beautiful scents and inside it’s awesome, so many flavors mixing. Not overwhelmingly just right.

We smelled each scent and picked out the coco coco for both myself and his mom. Runner ups were- tobacco, orange, agave.

I mostly went with coco coco because I wanted to be reminded of the ocean and beach every time I wore it!

I just had to have one of these pitches and went with the smaller one on the right. The glaze looks solid but when you look close it’s somewhat crackled, like it’s vintage. Currently sitting on the counter top just being all cute and chubby.

The hotel actually only has 6 rooms which fill up fast. Man, just looking through these images I’m re-inspired!

Have a good weekend!!

HONEYMOON | CASA JAGUAR

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and long weekend! We got in last night from our getaway with Dustin’s family on Daufuskie Island.  The weather was perfect for our packed schedule of family activities and for exploring around on golf carts.  We stayed in a house with 3 children under 5 years old so needless to say we could have used more sleep but overall a fun trip.  Glad to be back and to get the house ready for the fast approaching CHRISTMAS!

I’m sure food is the last thing on your mind, but I wanted to share our favorite restaurant from our honeymoon (yep, still talking about it, haha!) We did a lot of good eating while in Tulum but the one place that stood out, not only for the food but for the atmosphere, was Casa Jaguar.

Tucked in the jungle with no roof cover, they rely on the weathers cooperation for dinner service.  We found this out the hard way when we first visited but made it a point to return on a clear night and I’m glad we did!

I didn’t get a ton of photos (mostly because it was closed when I took these before we caught our flight and I didn’t want to snoop too much) but you can get the gist of how awesome this little spot is!

We got the ceviche appetizer and shared an entree.  The menu is different on their site then what we had at the restaurant but the main course was a catch of the day with two sides-corn and salad. Just the right amount of food!

The other restaurant we were really fond of is Posado Margarita. Unfortunately there wasn’t time in our schedule for me to return to take photos during the day but it’s a must visit!

Italian food in Mexico wasn’t the first thing I had in mind-tacos were usually on the brain-but I’m glad we tried it out. They make their own noodles fresh daily and had really interesting cocktails. This is where we tried mezcal for the first time, big fans! There’s also a boutique and candle shop. Really good vibes and a friendly staff.

One last honeymoon post coming up, photos of Coqui Coqui, a beautiful hotel that doubles as a perfumery!

OUR HONEYMOON | MISC

In between the adventurous outings we took we also did some low key stuff around Tulum.  Like, starting each day with a big ole breakfast!

This particular feast was at Ahau’s restaurant.  Before this trip I was never one to eat beans in the morning but after having smashed black beans with most of our meals, I’m sold!

Our first beers of the trip in the shuttle from the airport  // A church on Cozumel

Where we watched the sunrise our first morning // Workin’ it in Tulum

Beach finds // Roadside dream catchers where I found the one we took home. Between Tulum and Coba there are several small roadside villages that had the best handmade souvenirs. This is where I’d suggest to shop for blankets, dream catchers, ceramics, baskets.

Lunch at Ahau. Dustin got the octopus and really enjoyed it, the tacos were O-K, they could’ve used some Cholula or salsa but all they had was the habanero FIRE sauce. Their drinks never disappointed- we especially liked the house margaritas.

This shipping container boutique called, La Troupe, was loaded with bohemian pieces-both for the home and your closet. It’s right down the way between Casa Jaguar and The Hartwood.

In addition, there were a lot of great shops connected to hotels as well as restaurants, for example, Lol Tulum inside Posado Margarita.

Besides the stands in route to Coba, the locals selling around the road along the hotels (Quintana Roo 15) were also excellent spots to shop for souvenirs.  This is where I bought a good quality traditional Mexican blanket for a fair price.  When I looked in downtown they weren’t as nice and often not even made in Mexico.

Dustin enjoying a Coco Loco, which is a coconut filled with all the boozes!  //  Ahau seating  + happy hour

The enchiladas at Ziggy’s sounded good, but with added fried eggs, even better!   //  The coolest shop in downtown Tulum, she shooed me away after snapping these photos, oops!

The best tacos we had were at Mateo’s! Crispy baja style mahi, mmm, making me hungry just thinking about it!

Obsessed with all the tropical plants, especially cacti!  Years ago when I went to Hawaii I plucked a little cactus while hiking to take home. But at the airport they had an agriculture check point making sure people didn’t leave with wildlife and so I had to toss it. Learned my lesson and didn’t attempt this trip!

Dustin surprised me with this Triangl swimsuit a few months ago to bring on the honeymoon. He did good right? So many textures and stitching, it’s the most unique swimsuit I’ve ever owned. If you’re interested, just know, they are made for tiny Australian surfer babes..I had to size up and still feel like I’m squeezing in!

At one point, while sitting on the beach we were approached by two small children who were peddling bracelets, wool animals and fruit. I bought my mom a souvenir and the below bracelet I’m wearing. They were the cutest, however, a hotel staff member came over and told them to leave and at first I thought “oh come on, cut these cuties a break” but then we found out the little boy had stolen a man’s wallet the week prior!  Either way, they were freaking adorable!

Until 2003 Volkswagen was manufacturing the old style beetle in Mexico.  They were everywhere!  We thought it was so neat we talked about renting one for day but we got used to getting driven and didn’t want to drive ourselves, worrying with GPS  // Once again, happy hour!  // Outside the Tulum ruins  // Hipster cactus

So this is all the cushioning between the thrilling adventures I shared in the last post. Seriously, from 8am – midnight(ish) we were going nonstop!  Dustin joked we needed a post-honeymoon vacation and as funny as it sounds, he was right. But instead, started back at the jobs the following morning after arriving back to a much colder ATL >>>

Next up is pretty photos of Casa Jaguar, Have a good weekend!
