NEWS | I SPY ATL

ispyatl_headerjessarah11So this is what I’ve been hinting and getting at, I SPY ATL is live and has been going really REALLY well! My roommate Sarah and I started a few months back brainstorming, gathering content, designing the logos and with the help of our web development pal Natasha-who runs Nicely Built-we all created the website! I’ve taken some screen shots of my favorite parts of the site, let me explain!

The goal of this project is to “collect the unique and undiscovered parts of the city of Atlanta, and display them proudly for everyone to see. We embrace thoughtful narratives, uncovering the hidden, and taking the path less traveled. We aim to write about artists, musicians, creatives, problem-solvers, and everyone in between.” (via the site)

When you visit the ‘homepage’ it looks like below. Each story has a featured image and is tiled, similar to Pinterest. I like that when your cursor hovers over the image it shows “read more” above the photo. It’s sleek and user friendly.

ispycapture3The two main tabs our visitors will browse are the “view by spy type” and “neighborhoods.” We started with categories that first came to mind but will be expanding the range of categories as the site grows.

Above is what an individual post looks like, with the story’s body on the left and our IG feed on the right along with a “featured” post.  We have the ability to have this on the homepage but we felt it was distracting and also ate up room for the other stories to be displayed.

One of my favorite things about the website and the idea is that we want the community to get involved and participate in the site.  The “be a spy” tab is where they can do that with multiple options such as “i saw something” or “i am someone you should write about.”

ispycapture4Sarah put it best when she said:

I like to think of ourselves as the college radio version of Atlanta culture coverage: we don’t want anything corporatized, large-scale, mass produced. We want to cover the little guys, the new beginners, the small hustle. I’m excited about this; I hope you are too.

Read her take on the project here.

Thanks for reading and we hope you’ll visit I SPY ATL and follow along as we, and the city, showcase our favorite corners of Atlanta!

I Spy ATL can also be found on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!

PHOTOGRAPHY | MUSICIAN SHOOT

I had the delight of teaming up with a friend/musician/adorable free spirit Sydney Eloise Ward on a photoshoot last month for the newly launch site I SPY ATL (the side project I’ve been hinting at!) We asked Sydney some light-hearted questions you can read here.

Since I’ve been impatiently waiting to share these I’ll save the big run down of I Spy Atl for another post, promise! Here’s our shoot from a very sunny adventure at Arabia Mountain—

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY | RECEPTION

14369746626_9684f68803_bMy good friends Jonny and Ashley exchanged vows in Florida but because they are loved so much by their Atlanta family who didn’t want to miss out on celebrating the nuptials we all pulled together and hosted a reception for them in their own backyard last month. I took on the duty of decorating with all of my rustic findings from home, including deer antlers, mason jars, drift wood, vintage Readers Digest and other knickknacks. Friends brought additional decor that really pulled everything together like flowers and burlap.

14206228048_653d28ea97_bThere are lots of special things about J+A’s home but one of the coolest parts is that they built the back porch all by themselves! Additionally they commissioned mutual friend Olive to do the bird mural on the back of their home. Bet you’re realizing why we choose to do it at their house!

I’m especially proud of these since I planned it, decorated and snapped the photos.  I couldn’t have done it without the help of many, so thanks! (y’all know who you are!)

INSTA-FAVES 02

insta-faves 02I was pleased with how the other INSTA-FAVES post turned out so thought I’d make it a thing here on LF. I’ll post when I have four images saved to my phone of similar aesthetic.  Just like the other post, here, I’ll share the image source and what you can expect to see if you follow the account.  This entry’s theme is food/kitchen!

weekend wear 04

14151188680_56947076fc_bAfter a packed out weekend I’m finally getting to posting about one of the adventures Dustin and I had downtown. Through a Scoutmob “Handpicked” deal we went on a ferris wheel ride, had an app, dinner and dessert at Park Bar all for $49.00! I’d link the deal but I just checked and it’s sold out, sorry but be sure to sign up for their emails, so many goodies! Ever since Skyview Ferris Wheel made it’s debut in ATL we’ve wanted to go and it never happened so I planned it into one of our date nights.  It was neat to see the city from a birds-eye-view! Whether you’ve lived here forever or visiting, it’s a must do!

14151153198_f5fcda832f_bOur deal included the “banana boat” app at Park Bar which is fried plantains, pimento cheese with BACON! Oh my goodness these were so tasty!

14151147898_f1d03aa999_b 14151141229_a4cc7ca71e_bCaptureI had to use my Iphone for all these photos because I left my camera battery at home. I’ve done this a couple times lately, you’d think I’d learn to check. That type of forgetfulness is relatively new, hope it’s doesn’t stick around!  Thank goodness for the incredible technology we have, I hate missing cute moments!

14151142689_2c7af19ca0_bSeeing the city in the day time was cool but we both thought going again when it’s Christmas time and everything is lit up-especially since Centennial Olympic Park goes all out with the decorations-would be real pretty and romantic!

Aside from this adventure, we went to two cookouts, wound up at MJQ for Noot D’ Noot’s last show (EVER!) and I shot a studio visit that I’ll share more about when a certain website my roommate and I have created launches this week-STAY TUNED!

What I’m wearing: Gap shirt, Free People hat and jeans, UO shoes, Jcrew Bag and TOMS sunglasses.
