ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDENS

Unsure how I’ve lived in Atlanta for five years and not been to the Botanical Gardens but somehow it happened..that was until last Friday I took a half day and visited the gardens with Dustin and his old college friends that were in town visiting.  We had brunch at Flying Biscuit and then set out to oohh and ahhh at pretty flowers and plants. Even though it was late September, there was a lot of stuff in bloom!  They also have several green houses so you could technically go year-round and see plenty. At first I wanted to dress real cute and get a blog post at the gardens, then I decided to dress really comfy and concentrate on taking photos of the wildlife. Maybe another time when it’s just Dustin and I we can get an outfit post out of it. For now, check out all these amazing plants!

The highlight of the experience for me was the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory which housed plants in tropical and desert environments which means cacti (my favorite!) I chatted with one of the conservatory keepers and mentioned that I noticed that most every plant in there had spikes to which he casually said “yea, and they’re pretty poisonous.” Glad we didn’t touch any! Maybe some signs with this information would be helpful :P

Have a good day yall! Lots of posts in the works so come back real soon!

A BUCKHEAD HOME

A girl friend of mine is temporarily living at a gorgeous estate I couldn’t help but share. The beautiful European inspired home is located in Buckhead (aka Atlanta) on a good bit of land with lush vegetation and landscaping. I’ve always been somewhat intimated by interior photography since it’s banking on good natural light and many other factors so while I was hanging out “helping” Courtney with dinner I walked around and snapped some photos of the gorgeous interiors for extra practice.  I liked a majority of the photos I took and they required little editing which is always nice.

The home owner nailed the decor from herringbone wood floors to over-sized accents, this place is a dream space, take a look—

This home is really big so this is just the tip of the fancy iceberg plus like I said I wasn’t there to be doing a photoshoot so I didn’t want to take too much time in between chatting with Courtney and slicing veges.

I’ve been over many times and each walk through of the house is like a new experience! Have a good weekend!

PHOTOGRAPHY | MUSICIAN SHOOT

I had the delight of teaming up with a friend/musician/adorable free spirit Sydney Eloise Ward on a photoshoot last month for the newly launch site I SPY ATL (the side project I’ve been hinting at!) We asked Sydney some light-hearted questions you can read here.

Since I’ve been impatiently waiting to share these I’ll save the big run down of I Spy Atl for another post, promise! Here’s our shoot from a very sunny adventure at Arabia Mountain—

EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY | RECEPTION

14369746626_9684f68803_bMy good friends Jonny and Ashley exchanged vows in Florida but because they are loved so much by their Atlanta family who didn’t want to miss out on celebrating the nuptials we all pulled together and hosted a reception for them in their own backyard last month. I took on the duty of decorating with all of my rustic findings from home, including deer antlers, mason jars, drift wood, vintage Readers Digest and other knickknacks. Friends brought additional decor that really pulled everything together like flowers and burlap.

14206228048_653d28ea97_bThere are lots of special things about J+A’s home but one of the coolest parts is that they built the back porch all by themselves! Additionally they commissioned mutual friend Olive to do the bird mural on the back of their home. Bet you’re realizing why we choose to do it at their house!

I’m especially proud of these since I planned it, decorated and snapped the photos.  I couldn’t have done it without the help of many, so thanks! (y’all know who you are!)

FLASHBACK FRIDAY | CEMETERY PHOTOSHOOT

Jess in Grant Park and Oakland 234I’m real excited to share these photos from a shoot I did with Betsy a while back. To tell you the truth I’m not quite sure just how they slipped through the cracks of sharing here on the blog. That day we shot 3 outfits and I’ve already shared one and two HERE and HERE. I was thrilled with the outcome of these and was “saving for a special post” and then, whelp, life’s busy ways got the best of me.  So now I’m finally sharing our session at Oakland Cemetery, yay!

3 Jess'sJess in Grant Park and Oakland 295We may have turned on that facet, gotten the shots we wanted, got spotted and quickly turned off and booked it to a different area of the cemetery. maybe, maybe not. tehehe.
