QUEEN OF CREAMERY

21492879374_6c0675aced_k

The most charming little ice cream shop recently opened up on the Old Forth Ward side of the city.  Queen of Cream, serves up locally sourced house-made ice cream, coffee and baked goods in a natural light filled storefront on Highland Ave with the cutest furnishes and accents!  Instead of having a groom cake at the wedding, we are having three different ice cream flavors, so we went to have a tasting and to finalize the plans. While I was there I snapped photos to share this adorable parlor with you all!

*Naturally* we tried the salted caramel and brown butter whiskey pecan first! Then went on to the guava cheese cake and chocolate. We ended up choosing the pecan as a final flavor, made up a raspberry swirl concoction and Dustin invented another flavor which I’ll keep a secret for our wedding guests! They’ll be serving out of their cart, which I photographed a while back here. It’s going to be so cute outside the barn!

I just saw on Instagram they are delivering through the app Doordash. Ice cream (and coffee!) at your doorstep, now that’s dangerous!

Around the shop were these quirky prints from local photographer, Forrest Aguar.

LIFE LATELY

21060419114_83c3712653_k
This week I don’t have an outfit or food post but I do want to share some favorite moments from life lately~

Above is the lovely backdrop of my wedding shower! My bridesmaids held the event at one of their homes and made my boho dreams come true! I’m a lucky lady when it comes to friendships, truly lucky.

Been obsessed with the newly opened Revelator on the Westside of town. Their iced espresso with almond milk is on point!

Mom, Dustin and I made our own soy candles for the wedding party table using old candy dishes and jars. They turned out great!

We decided this year to skip Music Midtown and then at the last minute our friend Courtney hooked us up with a free pass for Friday. We rode our bikes from the house – around 4 miles each way – made attending and exiting a breeze!

We saw Metric and Elton John, both of which, killed it. Metric was upbeat and we turned it into a 3 person (Me + D + Muriel) dance party and Elton was, FANTASTIC. Definitely a bucket list moment!

VSCO partnered up with Artifact Uprising and gave away a free print and I got this photo from our engagement shoot in an 8.5×11. I was blown away with the quality! We are going to frame for our little home.

Speaking of great quality and Muriel, this tote basket is a recent gift from her trip to Morocco! Her and her bf were traveling for about two weeks and picked this up on like the second day, it then went from Morocco to Spain and then to ATL – it’s well-traveled already!

A scene from Jess Jones’ loft rooftop, gah I love this city!

There ya have a short and sweet recap of recent life. Happy Friday + enjoy the weekend!!

SUMMER ESSENTIAL

Y’all, I’m addicted to watermelon! I’ve been eating my weight in the stuff and can’t be stopped! Must have something to do with them being in peak ripeness which is also why July has been named National Watermelon Month!  At one point last week, I had four, yes, four whole watermelons at the house! Favorite way to eat is just go in, face first on a slice but we’ve also enjoyed several batches of salad using fresh mint, goat cheese, purple onions with a dash of balsamic vinegar. I recently pinned this recipe and would love to try and grill some!

When I was in Nashville I picked up the pretty one above at a small farmers market and we cut into it last week. It’s a lot more flavorful than the regular ones and prettier but whether they come from Kroger or a farm, they are filling and hydrating and my current go-to!

In case you’re interested to know, here’s some fun facts about my #1 snack via Mercola.com

-It’s both a fruit and a vegetable! (Like a tomato, only watermelons have more lycopene which is a great cancer fighter-more on that here)
-Both the seeds and rind are completely edible! (In fact, the rind has a TON of vitamins and can be made into smoothies)
-They are made of 91% water! (Well duh. But still, next time you’re at trivia, you’ll get the % correct)
-Rich in anti-inflammatory substances! (Get out of here sore muscles!)

Tips for picking the perfect melon:

-Look for the spot where it sits on the ground, should be pale and yellowish not white or green
-Should be heavy for it’s size (this one felt like it weighed a 100lbs!)

I don’t know about you, but now I’m craving some, good thing we still have plenty at home!

SNEAK PEEK: WEST ELM PONCE

west10

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the newest Atlanta West Elm, the 14,000 square foot Ponce City Market location!  The above photo is the living wall backdrop of their cashwrap. Nicole, the Director of PR for West Elm, explained to me that there’s an irrigation system installed in the reclaimed wood. Living artwork, how cool!

They salvaged the original floors and columns of the first tenants, Sears Roebuck. Read more about the history of Ponce City’s building on the trusty Wiki page here.

Local artist, Britt Bass, painted the art in the front window displays. She’s one of my favorites and definitely has West Elm vibes so her work fit in perfectly with the merchandise.

Can’t beat natural light and high ceilings!

The decor I favored most were the deep shades of navy and crisp whites. As it so happens, these are our wedding colors too! Additionally, we are registered at West Elm. Just putting that out there, heheh.

This location will be the third of it’s kind in the US with it’s Market that will brew local coffee as well as sell Market will include a coffee shop and an extension of West Elm’s kitchen, personal care, homescent, gifting, food and bath assortment.

One of the many many reasons I love West Elm is their support for local talent. In this shop alone they feature and sell 15 Georgia artisan’s goods. To see the full list, click here.

This store may be huge but since the merchandisers cleverly packed all 14,000 sqft. it makes it feel cozy and not like you’re perusing around a big, empty warehouse. Everywhere you turn, there are different vibes sure to please anyone’s style!

Hope you enjoyed my little preview of the store! Get over there and see for yourself!

WHERE’S WOODY?

Yesterday was literally hot as hell, but that didn’t stop me or the hundreds of whiskey fans from stopping by Loose Nuts Cycles to check out the Bulleit Whiskey trailer!  The little guy is called “Woody” and was originally designed for the Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gift Guide and retails at more than $150,000.  Created by iconic designer Brad Ford, the Woody is cast from repurposed Bulleit barrels and features a fully stocked bar of Bulleit Bourbon, Rye and 10-Year.  It’s been featured on The Today Show, CNN and more. Here’s my coverage along with some recipes from the event-
