WEAR 10

We celebrated Valentines over the course of several days. On Friday we went to Martinis and IMAX at Fernbank were we sipped drinks, danced to a live jazz band and then watched a documentary on the Galápagos Islands.  I had never been to Fernbank and I feel like we picked the perfect night to go since it was perfectly crowded with happy couples having a fancy date night.  Afterwards we went to a friends housewarming party in East Atlanta. It was definitely a busier Friday night than normal which led to a slow Saturday morning which was fine because it was Valentines Day and we had planned to chill anyways.

After a homemade breakfast and the usual house stuff we then went out to the Stone Mountain Hobby Lobby to pick up art we had framed.  It’s funny how living in the city you have to take a small road trip to get to things like Hobby Lobby and even Walmart is a trek from our home. While we were on the road we grabbed some ice cream at a Bruster’s, can you believe I had never been to one?! It was awesome! After that we went to Serenbe Farm which was not close at all but I needed to drop off some wall hangings and weavings at a shop and Dustin being the sweet guy he is agreed to go and drive.  As usual I fell asleep and am basically the worst road trip partner ever, haha!

The shop we were going to is called Green House which is operated by the sweetest gal named Kenya. She saw my stuff on IG and wanted to consign some of my pieces which is great since I had just planned to sell on Esty (or keep them all for myself!) While we were out there we took advantage of the warm sun and snapped these photos of what I was wearing.

After a day on the road we kept the Valentines evening chill with a date at Ration and Dram which is sorta new and located near our neighborhood (it’s on Arizona, so I think technically Kirkwood).  It was really yummy and very reasonally priced. Even though Friday and Saturday were packed we managed to fit in even more on Sunday. Brunch with a girl friend and a surprise birthday party! Needless to say this week we are laying LOW!

Next post I’m going to share a tour of Green House! It’s packed with amazing vintage finds for both the home and kitchen. Come back and visit in a few days!

SHADES OF BLACK

Lately I’ve been purging my closet by selling, trading and donating unwanted clothes.  My goal is to have more of a “capsule wardrobe” of quality pieces that are more timeless/classic vs. on trend though I know myself and will likely grab a few trendy articles here and there. One color I noticed that is still in abundance is black.  That’s probably because I’ve always felt like head-to-toe black is so chic but I usually like to add a few pops of other colors to break it up.  Definitely ok with having a black wardrobe especially when it comes to Fall and Winter-black clothes in the South during Summer gets a little trickier. weekend wear 02

14120949162_7562634e51_bThis past weekend we went to another BBQ restaurant, Fox Brothers Barbecue.  Surprisingly it was my first time. I say surprisingly because if you live in Atlanta it’s like a right of passage to eat at Fox Brothers, but, somehow I hadn’t. Since we had just gone to Sweet Auburn the weekend before it was only natural that we compared the two. We both agreed we like the sides better at Sweet Auburn but both places’ BBQ was very good and authentic to the traditional Southern style that Dustin and I are both used to eating.  Before dinner we explored around Dekalb Ave at one of my favorite murals that is part of Living Walls from a few years back. The mural I’m standing in front of is by Swamp Donkey and the other (sitting photo) is by Greg Mike, an Atlanta local.

I’m wearing a Zara shirt and undershirt, UO jeans, Sam Edelman boots, H&M jacket and Free People necklace.

I don’t know about you but my week has been a little crazy thus far, and it’s only Tuesday. And it’s only going to get more nutty since I’ll be heading to the Lady Gaga concert with my mom in just a few hours, that’s right-Lady Gaga with my Mom! We both wanted to go but are also tying it into Mother’s Day celebrations because we won’t see each other this weekend since I’ll be at another music event, Shaky Knees Festival. I’m so freaking excited, for both! Tonight we are dressing the part too in full head-to-toe Lady Gaga worthy attire!  So much music this week!  Last year I wrote about the muddy 2-day fest here and here and if you recall through other blog posts that’s where I met Dustin! This past Sunday (May 4th) was actually our 1-year meetiversary, so thankful for that rainy night!

LONG SKIRT, LONG JACKET

Today all of Atlanta has work or school off due to an icy winter storm that rolled through last night.  Taking the time at home stuck indoors to work on backed up blog posts, blogger productivity at it’s finest if I do say so myself! Here’s an outfit I wore to a studio visit at the Goat Farm-that post also coming up this week-and to walk around/peruse shops in the Westside:

Left most ring is David Yurman which is actually my college “class ring” since I didn’t want a real one, Emma gifted me the middle elephant poison ring from the head shop she works at and the right most ring I bought from a jeweler in Tuscaloosa (read about it in this post).

SELFIE CHALLENGE

The ladies over at A Beautiful Mess challenged themselves to a 30-day Instagram Selfie Challenge and invited the rest of the web to join in for a chance to win their new photography idea book! For a while now I’ve been wanting to do some sort of photography challenge and this one seemed fun +easy so I joined in from the start and 30 (ish) days later I compiled many different styles of “selfies” Though the contest is closed and I [sadly] didn’t win the book, I did enjoy documenting my versions of selfies, here’s a recap from my Instagram feed all of which were taken on a phone (mine or Dustin’s if mine was dead):

and there you have it! 30(ish) days of documenting my daily happenings with SELFIES
(if I never have to type that word again it’d be too soon!) I say 30ish because I’ll admit there were about 2-3 days where I got wrapped up in my busy schedule (or vacation!) and just FORGOT but then quickly posted early the next day. regardless I’m happy with how my final collection turned out! all are pretty different and not just me in my bathroom mirror sporting “duck lips”
