FESTIVAL FASHION | MUSIC MIDTOWN ’14

IMG_7747-2
This time around I felt more inclined to enjoy myself and not worry with photos. However, the fashion loving photographer in me still chased down some ladies for a quick snap of their outfits or details. As usual they were stoked so it made it all the better for me and my efforts!

This year’s festival fashion was what you’d expect–flower crowns, high waist shorts, kimonos and floppy hats.  So many people were hating on the fashion trends but I like seeing flower crowns and mom shorts.  Yea, I agree, not everyone should sport revealing clothing (re: butt cleavage) or turn into a bohemian for the sake of a music festival but I appreciate the effort some people put into getting ready!

Thanks to the ladies who stopped for photos!

Hope you all had a good weekend. Ours included BBQ, workout, Outkast and Atlanta Streets Alive. Needless to say, we are pooped!

MUSIC MIDTOWN 2014

outfit
I’m happy to say that mine and Dustin’s curse of rainy outdoor music has been broken! This years Music Midtown was absolutely gorgeous-no ponchos or rain boots-just warm pre-Fall sun! We were especially excited since we took advantage of living on the Beltline and rode our bikes both days using the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s bike valet service, so easy and convenient! Music Midtown made a few changes this year with stage setups and policies but my favorite change, or rather upgrade was the expanded artist and vendor market area. There was a short time frame we didn’t care to see the bands playing so we grabbed a beer and walked around looking at the jewelry, handmade guitars, folk art, blown glass, and more-it was a nice break.

Our beer of choice and even better that it’s local! There wasn’t a ton of choices so if it’s between a light, watered down beer or a flavorful high gravity for a little more, you’ll find us always going to the more bang for your buck option.

The back of this top was perfectly breezy for a music fest! Leave it to Free People to create the best attire for such occasions.

This years crowd flags and markers were really fun, couldn’t help but snap this hip Mario! On day two we stood by someone’s flag and used it to our benefit to help friends find us. Maybe next year we’ll actually bring something fun and creative though it seems like a chore to keep up with anything other than yourself or group and belongings!

Friday’s lineup for us included Bear Hands, Run DMC, Lorde and Jack White. All very different but the one artist that stole the show was Lorde! She had killer dance moves, changed into three different outfits and had huge bubbles raining from above the stage! Whoever said she was boring live was proved wrong, she really impressed this lady!

Day Two’s Outfit which I coined the “hipster farmer look” was comfy and breathable during the peak of the heat.

Details: Free People hat, Madewell shirt, Target overalls, Clarks desert boot, vintage bag and Oakley sunglasses

Saturday’s lineup for us included Sleeper Agent, Third Eye Blind, Twenty One Pilots, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bastille and Eminem. The artist that was my favorite, and I wasn’t surprised, was Fitz! We didn’t attempt to get close to really anyone else but knew there show would be fun up close so we got there early and camped out which proved to be way worth it! Frontman, Michael and his co-vocalist Noelle have really great energy and boogied down!

This bearded man of mine loves concerts about as much as I do, if not MORE! Couldn’t ask for a better festival companion! Processed with VSCOcam with e6 preset
Next up we are going to Outkast, Kid Cudi and Childish Gambino this weekend at Centennial Olympic Park. Bought these tickets so long ago and can’t wait to see Outkast perform in their hometown-should be epic!

BRIDESMAID BRUNCH

15268975475_e9f9ab733b_k
For the local ladies I needed to ask to be my bridesmaids, I hosted a brunch at my home on Sunday.  I had planned on making individual quiches but while at the farmers market picking up ingredients I decided it would be best to get pre-made entrees to save some stress that morning. So I got a large spinach artichoke goat cheese and sun dried tomato asparagus quiche and then stuff to make sides. In order for the ladies and myself to not get so stuffed we wanted to take post-brunch naps I kept things light with the sides and made a fruit salad (kiwi, blackberries and cucumbers with lemon juice) and rosemary fingerling potatoes. The potatoes were ADORABLE! Strange sentence I know but see for yourself:

*Drum roll please………….My matron of honor, Mrs. Ashleigh Smith!

Our story: We met our freshman year at Alabama in 2004 and lived together our sophomore year and again in Atlanta for a year and a half. We’ve been friends through many life stages and shared many adventures, tears, laughs, jobs, drinks, clothes (though I’m not good at sharing my wardrobe!) inside jokes and will now being sharing the role of being each other’s maid of honor! Love you Ash and I’m blessed you’re in my life!15245483396_e9baa5453a_k
All plates were my Nana’s that I recently inherited. Not sure if the two went together but when I layered them, making the larger plate the charger, I liked the look and went with it! The table runner was a last minute addition, kraft paper and white paint-easy peasy!

From left to right: Emma, Elizabeth, Ashley, ME, Ashleigh, Katherine
Not pictured: Liz and Ali, total of seven bridesmaids!

Lil summary of how we each met:

Emma and I met our Junior year of college through mutual friends and connected over our love of jam bands, rock collections and retro decor-hippy soul mates from the start!
Elizabeth and I met through the all female promotions group Sorry,Darlin. I was the nightlife photographer and she was the food blogger.  A few parties, and a costume or two, later we connected and started to hang outside of events!
Ashley and I were introduced by Elizabeth after she relocated from Tallahassee where they originally met.  Even though during our first encounter I made a fool of myself, she still wanted to be my friend!
Katherine and I met when I was buying some of her produce from the Grant Park Farmers market and we quickly realized we should be real deal friends, so we were!
Ali (not pictured) is married to my brother and has been a friend ever since we met when they first started dating their freshman year. Nice to have a part of my family in the mix!
Liz (not pictured) is my oldest pal as we went to high school together in Maryland. She also takes the cake at being my silliest friend-when we are around each other we revert back to 16!
15081792120_950c5294ed_k
For the mimosas I got dry champagne, a sparkling chardonnay pinot noir blend and Harpoon’s white hefeweizen (beermosas). The Jacob’s Creek blend was my favorite-dry, not too sweet and bubbly! Also so we’d stay hydrated I put together some infused water-cucumbers and mint-just to liven up the water a bit.

I’ve always felt lucky when it came to my group of friends I’ve made throughout the years.  Growing up in a military family that moved every one to three years you tend to lose contact with friends from the past, but you can ask anyone, I’m not afraid to make new ones! Between my time in Maryland, Alabama and now Georgia-I’ve been fortunate to find some really great ladies! Each one plays different roles in my life and all come together to make a friend family I can rely on, trust and continue to grow with, love you all!

weekend wear 06

So I’ll admit, this outfit isn’t actually from this weekend it’s from the weekend before when I was ALL about this hat.  This may seem silly to you because it’s pretty casual but this might be my favorite outfit I’ve worn in a long time! Probably helps that my hair is styled differently than normal but I just really like that I wore a button-down opened and pulled it off. I’m the type that would wear a dress every day because it’s easy and always envied girls that were good at layering so when I do pull off a layered look, I’m stoked! I wore this to hang around Decatur after our Labor Day horse back riding trip was cancelled due to rain and a muddy trail. *I was going to wear jeans, NOT this skirt! We decided not to waste the day and go have some drinks and see where that took us. We started at Java Monkey then went to Brick Store and then met up with friends at Kimball House. Turned out to be a beautifully HOT day of silliness, oysters and many’a drinks.

Dustin’s drink at Kimball House, the ‘sun viking’ consisting of junipero gin, krogstad aquavit, dill, lemon, fino sherry. Got a little sip, not only pretty but also tasty!

Dustin being silly and looking good in his new Gap jeans :)

One of the reasons I don’t have an outfit post from this previous weekend is because I was mostly in athletic gear as we had a yard sale all day on Saturday! It went really well and I was happy to see my stuff go to new homes. Afterwards I donated the stuff that didn’t sell to Goodwill and was surprisingly still ok to say goodbye. I feel like the older I’ve gotten the more I want to simplify my home space, so this is the start to living clutter free!

Hope your week is off to a great start!

A BUCKHEAD HOME

14960463477_c9c8c1b845_k
A girl friend of mine is temporarily living at a gorgeous estate I couldn’t help but share. The beautiful European inspired home is located in Buckhead (aka Atlanta) on a good bit of land with lush vegetation and landscaping. I’ve always been somewhat intimated by interior photography since it’s banking on good natural light and many other factors so while I was hanging out “helping” Courtney with dinner I walked around and snapped some photos of the gorgeous interiors for extra practice.  I liked a majority of the photos I took and they required little editing which is always nice.

The home owner nailed the decor from herringbone wood floors to over-sized accents, this place is a dream space, take a look—

This home is really big so this is just the tip of the fancy iceberg plus like I said I wasn’t there to be doing a photoshoot so I didn’t want to take too much time in between chatting with Courtney and slicing veges.

I’ve been over many times and each walk through of the house is like a new experience! Have a good weekend!
