FROM GEORGIA

Like I mentioned previously I stayed in Georgia and am celebrating the holiday with my boyfriend and his family. Last night they opened sibling gifts and Dustin and I exchanged one present and we all ate a tex mex feast before changing into pj’s and lounging around.

Today we opened up our gifts to one another, he gave me a lens cleaning kit, new 40mm 2.8 lens and pouch and printed several of my favorite photos in 8×10 and bought us both Shaky Knees Festival tickets for May 2014! He sure knows the way into this photographers heart! I gave him Clark’s desert boots and socks, a Jcrew jacket, Under Armor running shirt, Starbuck’s Christmas blend coffee, sriracha, and Tony’s seasoning.  We’ve already played with the new lens and he’s walking around in his new shoes and jacket over his pj’s, living the good life out here in the suburban countryside!

REAL GOOD STUFF

One of my favorite places to walk around, shop and eat in Atlanta is Westside Provisions District off Howell Mill. My love for this area began when I was renting a studio at the Goat Farm several years ago and it keeps growing with each new space that pops up including the recently opened JCrew Womens store.  Here’s an outfit I wore while grabbing lunch with Dustin and snapping streetstyle pics for Jezebel Magazine.

Hope everyone is ready for the *FAST* approaching holiday!  My shopping is pretty much done just need to complete a DIY project for mine and Dustin’s family which is on schedule and I plan to share here after it’s past the point of spoiling the surprise! For the first time ever I won’t be going home but rather spending Christmas with my boyfriend and his family.  Feels strange to have already received my presents via Fedex from my folks and to not be gearing up for a trip but also feels great to be this in love and have the chance to spend the holiday with my other half starting the beginning of our traditions.  I’ll miss my family’s many traditions including the candle light church service on Christmas Eve followed by driving around singing carols and checking out Christmas lights.  Then on the morning of Christmas, pawing through our cross-stitched stockings made by my Nana and sorting out the gifts in piles by name and waiting for my “turn” to open but I’ve gotta roll with the flow and this year it’s not the norm.  Biggest reason why my family isn’t “doing” Christmas is my parents house is in boxes from the move and my dad has to fly (he’s an airline pilot for Southwest) so we are putting our traditions on pause till next year.

Speaking of gifts, my early start to celebrating Christmas included Santa bringing me the Kate Spade purse I wanted and an Ipad Air, thanks to Santa Dad and Mrs. Kathy Claus for making this internet-loving-fashion-blogging-lady HAPPY.

*if I look cold and bitter it’s because I am, haha, not really just not yet caffeinated and FREEZING!

11347717686_64a566be7b_c Here is what I wore last Saturday while shooting Santa photos at Westside Provisions District’s “TINSEL AND TWINE” event. I wanted to wear a holiday look but keep it comfy since I was dealing with kids all day.  The photos don’t do this top justice because the real beauty of the top is the back which is an open design that sorta looks like lattice, hard to describe but I’ll be sure to post photos of the detailing when it’sNOT cold as all get out!

Never did I ever think I’d be behind the lens shooting photos of kids sitting on Santa’s lap but there isn’t a better atmosphere or bunch of children to work with than atWSPD. I’m there again tomorrow from 11-4 so if you’re around the area, come by and say hi and please bring coffee, thanks!

Took me a second to get the pics off my camera from Thanksgiving week because I shot them in RAW format and don’t have Lightroom yet and it didn’t dawn on me that I could use my Dropbox then use Photoshop, so yea, here’s my recap!

I spent Thurs-Sun at my folks place in Alabama on Lake Tuscaloosa. It was the last weekend they were spending in that house before moving closer to town in their newly purchased home. It was bittersweet for sure because I love lake life but the new house will have a pool, outdoor kitchen and 5 beautiful acres of yard for bocce ball and frisbee tossing!

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is the “Iron Bowl” which is a football game between Alabama vs Auburn and is a huge day for fans including my family. We “tailgated” in the backyard, playing cornhole and sipped beers and cheered on Bama (who’s had a winning streak) until they made a dumb decision at the end and lost.

On Sunday I headed back to Atlanta and met up with my brothers for our traditional (this year marks the 27th year!) Santa photo at Atlantic Station since taking one in Tuscaloosa didn’t work out as Santa was “sick.”  We do this every year for my mom, it’s the one thing she asks for and we like to make mom happy. She says when one of us has a kid we are “off the hook!”

If you live around ATL you should visit Atlantic Station while they have it decorated, very pretty! Dustin and I had fun checking out the HUGE tree and seeing everything light up, great spot for a daytime date!

Finishing up my recap of the trip Dustin and I took to Savannah with my favorite part:  Bonaventure Cemetery.  As odd as it may seem to some of you, I find historic cemeteries quite peaceful and being a sucker for old landscapes find them to be beautiful. When we visited Bonaventure I knew very little about it’s history and while we were there I didn’t take the time to read literature but rather took in the sights.  I am often guilty of doing this on vacations, not much of a “history buff” so I tend to just enjoy.  We quickly picked up on reoccurring themes and later still being interested, I read about it’s past.  We noticed many Jewish headstones as well as Confederate plot markers and after a Google search found out the cemetery’s largest group burials include war veterans (WW1 &WW2) various religious faiths and the Order of Railroad Conductors. There’s more information on the group burials here.

Cemetery closed us in so we had to escape by jumping the fence which proved to be a little tricky.

my look: Forever 21 jacket, Lovely Day dress, Nine West booties, Clothing Warehouse sunglasses

The quiet stroll around the cemetery snapping photos and hanging with my babe was very pleasant. We were going to take a ghost tour on our trip but didn’t end up being able to squeeze it in, didn’t really need to anyways after walking through a huge cemetery!
