EXPERIMENTING

though I’ve tried several times to rock odd shaped slacks such as harem pants, carrot top (aka paperbag trousers) etc. I’ve had no luck with my body shape looking even REMOTELY flattering with the structure of the waist. so, I had given up until I spotted these maroon Urban Outfitters slacks at a clothing swap and since they were free I thought, eh ..why not give’em a try? took a lil courage and the right top but I think this outfit is somewhat flattering, trendy and it was extremely comfortable for a Friday afternoon at work and afterwards having dinner with a friend.

hope everyone enjoyed the first official weekend of Summer! mine included biking around Piedmont park, tossing the frisbee and eating fresh chips and salsa, all with SPF 45-just needed to get in a lil pool time and it would have been complete!!

A Beautiful Mess

Iphone Photo App Review!
just over a month ago sisters Elsie + Emma of A Beautiful Mess launched their super cute photo app and since day one I’ve been obsessed! I’ve always loved their doodles on their blog photos that they create using Photoshop and now for just .99 cents you can do it easily with their app and jazz up photos for your personal use, blog or Instagram (which is probably the most common use.) the application itself is quite simple: choose a photo from any of your photo libraries and start experimenting! they also offer some backgrounds if you just want to have a canvas vs. a photo, but I’ve stuck with spicing up my personal pics.  I wanted to share some of my creations and give a few tips as I’ve learned a thing or two from using the app quite a bit.
AB_4
first, I’d like to think less is more with this app. so I typically do a little pre-editing of my pics using several different applications such as Afterlight, Camera+ and Mirrorgram. they offer a couple of filters with ABM but I prefer the ones through Afterlight the most. keeping it clean and simple with the doodles, borders and texts won’t distract from the actual image as that should be the main focus.

the first .99cents will get you the app and some of the fonts/borders/doodles but add-on packages are available which I’d recommend because there’s some really cute additions and they are also just .99cents! I think I’ve spent a total of $4.00 and it’s worth it, especially with the fun fonts.

one of the small details in this app that I noticed right off the bat was how polite it is when you want to start over. it asks “are you sure you want to start over?” and you click “No Thanks” or “Yes Please” – that little detail made me say to myself, “how sweet!” and I think it shows this is something that was made with love.

using this app has added some uniqueness to my Instagram and also helped gain some new followers through hashtaging #ABeautifulMess. originally, my one concern with the software is that the quality of my photos seemed to get slightly less crisp, however, that is something that has been worked out through an update so all is well and I fully recommend this app to anyone with an Iphone or Android!

Available through Itunes + App Store

Thanks Elsie+Emma for allowing us to have a piece of ABM!

Josh Gwyn Photography

last month I went out to Stone Mountain State Park with some friends to participate in a photoshoot that was for Nadia Marie’s styling portfolio and Josh Gwyn’s photography portfolio. Josh Gwyn is a buddy of mine who recently interned for Leah + Mark his last semester of college and just received a degree in Photography from Georgia State. he’s really great behind the lens, check out a few of my favorite snaps from  our Sunday at Stone Mountain-

above outfit was styled by Nadia Marie for her portfolio as she was applying to Anthropologie and Madewell, only thing I remember is the jewelry was J Crew

check out Josh’s website, it’s loaded with beautiful images, if you like what you see-hire him for your wedding, party or portraits!

SUMMERFEST + ARTLANTIS

as I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, I’m usually playing catch-up on updating recent events (hence Flashback!) so here’s another catching-up post from last weekend’s Summerfest + Artlantis events.

Summerfest is located on Virginia Ave and pretty much takes over Highland Ave. it features artists, food, live music and high Southern temperatures! each year I’ve lived in ATL I’ve attended the event with layers of SPF, a hand fan and cup of water and STILL get so exhausted from the sun and heat but I keep going back for more as I love all forms of festivals! Artlantis which is just down the street on Ponce De Leon, also takes place on the same day, but is Indie and has more affordable arts and craft goods. it’s fun to attend both to see all the variety of art, from high end contemporary pieces that I personally wouldn’t buy but enjoy admiring to reconstructed vintage clothing, between the two events you get to see a wide variety of goodies!

here’s some streetstyle, detailed shots of pretty things and festival snaps:

after taking the pic of the girl on the left we recognized each other and realized I had actually taken her photo during Shaky Knees fest! I must really dig her style! dress on the right is vintage and ADORABLE.
details_3
top pic is of a little girl’s rad high top sneakers, she was pretty bashful but I think she was just playing it wayyyyy cool (since after all, she WAS super hip!) bottom Docs were recently purchased and she was real stoked I took this pic, yay!
shorts_dbl
my one purchase came from the booth and artist on the left, it’s a bendable headband that is made from vintage fabric (she is actually wearing one she made!) wish I could remember the name of their booth. shorts and crop tops are also a nice way to stay cool and were sported by many.
meltingsunapp
artist and hip lady behind the brand Melting Sun Apparel and her goods.

#LADIEZBEACHTIMEZ

aka ADULT SPRING BREAK
yes, we created our own hashtag on Instagram and yes, it was #ladiezbeachtimez!
since my Memorial Day weekend plans had changed due to the breakup I immediately jumped on board with a crew of girls going down to Panama City Beach. it wasn’t till last minute that it turned out we would be boarding a private plane and Ashley’s dad was going to FLY us down there saving 5.5/6 hours of travel time, gas money, multiple pit stops and the headache of holiday weekend traffic. what a pleasant surprise all of it was! here’s a lil recap of our experience in PCB-
pcb_1
the crew (L to R) Flashy, Mal, J Step, Ashley & Roberta
pbc_2
such a celeb, even getting photo-bombed!
pcb_5
pcb_3
jet attire:
Alex + Alex dress, Gap denim jacket, Oakley shades, vintage Saks Fifth Ave bag, Frye sandals
pcb_7
the ride was a lil bumpy while we reached our cruising altitude and then smoothed out, we toasted the trip with Prosecco and then before we knew we were landing! easy breezy. travel time was around 1hr vs 6, now that’s the life!
pcb_6
on to beach timez:
flashy_pcb
brought the same swim suits I bought in Hawaii but mixed them up with different accessories and cover-ups. like this Piko “dress” I got at the Mart, never have worn it as a dress, but works great as a cover up from condo to beach!
castles_sailboats
we kept getting asked if we were responsible for these massive sand castles that were built near us, we joked that we should just start taking credit. word of advice lil kiddos: don’t leave your castle unattended, for late 20 somethings will still your thunder!
ispy_double
i spy: many’a folks that shouldn’t be wearing barely-there-swimwear #PCB
eliz_horizon
since Eliz had a TOMS event in ATL on the Friday we flew out, she had to meet us there Saturday but with her rented Dodge Charger complete with a HEMI she was there in no time to join the fun!
beach_attire
last day we went to St. Andrews State Park, where we floated and splashed around before heading back and packing up.
my beachware- Target tank, Free People shorts and Havaianas I picked up in Hawaii and a SWEET AIRBRUSH LF HAT I got a Alvin’s Island!
airbrush_DBL
do I look like I’m getting stung by jelly fish? no. cool.. cause I sure as hell was!
pretty excited about my new hat, minus the guy doing the “lady” way small and sorta too high on the hat but hey, it’s from PCB and its airbrush and has a pineapple on it, I’m satisfied!
pcb_8
make’n it rainnnn!!!
sorta like I did with the dollar bills we paid to get into the state park with…now that I think about it, I’m sure Elizabeth loved having me as a car buddy… yelling HEMI every so often, dancing and playing air keyboard on the dash and making it rain. ya, I’m POSITIVE she loved it :P
“adult” Spring Break, pshhh.
pcb_grass_dbl
rando kid I asked to take the above pic did a good job, right? haha.
eliz_pcb
playing around with layering, really like how this turned out! also love Eliz’s swimsuit, it’s by DKNY.
trip was exactly what I needed and included a little bit of everything: beach/pool/porch time including Corona’s and salted limes, hitting up a farmers & fish market then cooking in and playing silly games, eating a swanky dinner and a tad bit of beach party times including guys vs girls flip cup that we dominated! solid trip with my ladies!
thanks to my hospitable friends, love youuuu
next up: street style around Summerfest + Artlantis from this past weekend. gotta catch uppppp!
